Durogesic patches contain fentanyl, a strong opioid medicine, used to relieve very strong and long-lasting pain in adults and children over 2 years old who are already taking opioid medicine.
Change your Durogesic patch every 3 days (72 hours), unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
Apply the patch to a clean, dry, and cool area of your upper body or arm, avoiding joints, and press it firmly for at least 30 seconds to ensure it sticks well.
Your doctor will decide the correct patch strength for you; do not use more than prescribed or change your dose yourself.
Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. Serotonergic. Intended for the treatment of cancer pain. Not suitable for initiating opioid medication. Low transdermal efficacy in cachectic patients. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential significant interactions. (updated 24.3.2025)
