Important Warnings

  • Durogesic can cause very serious, life-threatening side effects in people who do not regularly use strong opioid pain medicines.
  • This medicine can be life-threatening for children. Even used patches still contain medicine. If a patch sticks to a child's skin or they put it in their mouth, it can cause death. Keep all patches (used and unused) out of sight and reach of children in a safe place.
  • The patch should only be applied to the skin of the person it was prescribed for. If it accidentally sticks to another person (especially a child), it can cause serious side effects like slow or shallow breathing, which can be fatal. If this happens, remove the patch immediately and contact a doctor.
  • If you get a fever while using Durogesic, tell your doctor, as fever can increase the amount of medicine absorbed through your skin.
  • Durogesic can cause constipation. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice on how to prevent or treat it.
Show 3 more warnings
  • Do not expose the patch to direct heat (like heating pads, hot water bottles, or sunbathing). This can increase the amount of medicine absorbed, which could be dangerous.
  • If you or your caregiver notice unusual sleepiness or slow/shallow breathing in the person using the patch, remove the patch and call a doctor or go to the nearest hospital immediately. This could be very serious.
  • Do not drink alcohol while using Durogesic without first talking to your doctor.
