How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for pain is one 10 mg/5 mg prolonged-release tablet every 12 hours. For restless legs syndrome, the usual starting dose is one 5 mg/2.5 mg prolonged-release tablet every 12 hours.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with enough liquid (e.g., half a glass of water), usually every 12 hours at the same times each day (e.g., 8 AM and 8 PM). Do not divide, crush, or chew the tablets. You can take it with or without food.

Important

For pain, the maximum daily dose is 160 mg of oxycodone hydrochloride and 80 mg of naloxone hydrochloride. For restless legs syndrome, the maximum daily dose is 60 mg of oxycodone hydrochloride and 30 mg of naloxone hydrochloride.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decreased appetite or complete loss of appetite
  • Sleep difficulties, fatigue, exhaustion, dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, drowsiness, vertigo
  • Hot flashes
  • Abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, indigestion, vomiting, nausea, flatulence
  • Itchy skin, skin reactions, sweating
  • Tingling in hands or feet
  • Decreased or increased blood pressure
  • Elevated liver enzyme levels
  • Chest pain, chills, general pain
RARE
  • Hypersensitivity/allergic reactions
  • Restlessness, anxiety, confusion, depression, nervousness, abnormal thinking, insomnia
  • Epileptic seizures
  • Impaired vision
  • Breathing difficulties, runny nose, cough
  • Muscle spasms, muscle twitching, muscle pain
  • Increased need to urinate
  • Withdrawal symptoms such as agitation, chest pain, chills, general malaise, pain, swelling of hands, ankles or feet
  • Weight loss or gain
  • Decreased libido
  • Thirst
  • Changes in taste perception
  • Increased heart rate
  • Yawning
  • Tooth changes
  • Drug dependence
  • Sudden sleep onset
  • Erectile dysfunction

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to oxycodone, naloxone, or any other ingredients in Duoxona.
  • Do not use if you have severe breathing problems or severe lung diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or severe asthma.
  • Do not use if you have moderate to severe liver impairment.
  • This medicine contains an opioid (oxycodone) and can lead to dependence and/or addiction; do not misuse it. Misuse by injection can be fatal.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol and grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as it can increase side effects and risks.

  • This medicine can cause drowsiness and affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Do not drive or use machines if you feel drowsy.
