Duoxona is a long-acting tablet used to treat severe pain or restless legs syndrome, and it also contains an ingredient to help prevent constipation.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for pain is 10 mg of oxycodone hydrochloride / 5 mg of naloxone hydrochloride extended-release tablets.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with enough liquid (about half a glass of water) every 12 hours, preferably at the same times each day (e.g., 8 AM and 8 PM). Do not break, crush, or chew the tablets. You can take them with or without food.

Important

Your doctor will set your maximum daily dose, which should not typically exceed 160 mg of oxycodone and 80 mg of naloxone.

  • Breathing difficulties (slow, shallow breathing); cough or runny nose

  • Changes in liver enzymes (seen in blood tests)
  • Muscle cramps, twitches, or pain
  • Increased or difficult urination
  • Withdrawal symptoms (agitation, chills, body aches) if stopping abruptly
  • Weight changes (loss or gain)
  • Decreased sex drive or erectile dysfunction
  • Swelling in hands, ankles, or feet
  • Sudden sleep attacks
  • Changes in taste
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet
  • Sleep apnea (pauses in breathing during sleep)
  • Hallucinations or nightmares
  • Drug dependence (addiction)
  • Yawning
  • Tooth problems
  • General discomfort or weakness
  • Lack of energy

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to any ingredients in Duoxona.
  • Do not use if you have severe breathing problems, like very slow breathing, severe lung disease, severe asthma, or a heart condition affecting your lungs.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems or a bowel blockage not caused by opioids.
  • This medicine can be addictive; do not stop taking it suddenly without talking to your doctor, as this can cause withdrawal symptoms.
  • Do not crush, chew, or inject these tablets, as it can be very dangerous and even deadly.

  • Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as they can increase side effects.
  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel drowsy or suddenly fall asleep, as Duoxona can affect your alertness.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before taking Duoxona.
