Duoxona is a prolonged-release tablet used to treat severe pain or severe restless legs syndrome, releasing its active ingredients slowly over 12 hours and includes a substance to prevent constipation.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for pain is one 10 mg/5 mg tablet twice a day, every 12 hours.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with enough liquid, with or without food, every 12 hours at the same times each day (e.g., 8 AM and 8 PM). Do not break, crush, or chew the tablets.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 160 mg oxycodone hydrochloride and 80 mg naloxone hydrochloride. For restless legs, the maximum is 60 mg oxycodone hydrochloride and 30 mg naloxone hydrochloride.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Reduced appetite or loss of appetite
  • Feeling tired or very tired
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, feeling sleepy
  • Hot flashes
  • Stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, indigestion, vomiting, nausea, gas
  • Itchy skin, skin reactions or rash, sweating
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Depression
  • Shaking, tingling in hands or feet
  • Blurred vision
  • Changes in blood pressure (low or high)
  • Increased liver enzymes
  • Chest pain, chills, thirst, general pain
RARE
  • Allergic reactions
  • Restlessness, unusual thoughts, anxiety, confusion, nervousness
  • Seizures (epileptic attacks), speech problems, fainting
  • Chest tightness (especially with heart disease), fast heartbeat
  • Breathing difficulties, runny nose, cough
  • Abdominal bloating
  • Gallstone attacks
  • Muscle cramps or pain
  • Increased urge to urinate
  • Withdrawal symptoms like agitation, body aches, chills, general discomfort, swelling in hands, ankles, or feet
  • Weight changes (loss or gain)
  • Accidental injuries
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Lack of energy
  • Changes in taste
  • Yawning
  • Tooth problems
  • Drug dependence
  • Feeling overly happy (euphoria), seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations), nightmares
  • Severe drowsiness
  • Breathing problems during sleep (sleep apnea), shallow breathing
  • Burping
  • Erectile dysfunction

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to oxycodone hydrochloride, naloxone hydrochloride, or any other ingredients in Duoxona.
  • Do not use if you have severe breathing problems, slow or shallow breathing, or if you stop breathing during sleep (sleep apnea).
  • Do not use if you have moderate to severe liver problems.
  • Do not use if you have a blocked bowel (paralytic ileus) not caused by opioids.
  • If you are treating restless legs, do not use if you have a history of opioid abuse.
