How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the right dose for you based on your condition and weight; the usual filtration rate is 20-25 ml per kg of body weight per hour for all ages.

Method

This medicine is given to you through a special tube system and an infusion pump connected to a hemofiltration machine.

Important

This treatment is given for a limited time until your normal kidney function returns; your doctor will decide when to stop the treatment.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Too much or too little fluid in your body (overhydration or dehydration)
  • Abnormal salt levels, such as too much potassium in the blood (hyperkalemia)
  • Low phosphate levels in the blood (hypophosphatemia)
  • High blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia)
  • Abnormally low blood acidity (metabolic alkalosis)
  • High or low blood pressure (hypertension or hypotension)
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Muscle cramps

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you have very high potassium levels in your blood or if your blood is too acidic.
  • Hemofiltration should not be done if your kidney failure involves very fast metabolism where the treatment can't remove enough waste, if you have poor blood flow around the IV line, or if you have a high risk of bleeding due to blood-thinning medication.
  • Your blood pressure, fluid, salt, acid, blood sugar, phosphate, and potassium levels, as well as kidney function, will be closely monitored before and during treatment.
  • Always tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking, have recently taken, or might take.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
