How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your condition and weight; typically, the recommended filtration rate is 20-25 ml per kg of body weight per hour for all ages.

Method

This medicine is given through a tube system and infusion pump connected to a hemofiltration machine, outside your body.

Important

The treatment for acute kidney failure is given for a limited time until your kidneys work normally again; there is no fixed maximum daily dose as it's continuously monitored.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Too much or too little fluid in the body (overhydration or dehydration).
  • Abnormal levels of salts (electrolytes).
  • Low phosphate levels in the blood (hypophosphatemia).
  • High blood sugar (hyperglycemia).
  • Abnormally low blood acidity (metabolic alkalosis).
  • High or low blood pressure (hypertension or hypotension).
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Muscle cramps.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you have very low potassium in your blood (hypokalemia) or if your blood is too alkaline (metabolic alkalosis).
  • Hemofiltration should not be done if you have poor blood circulation around the cannula (the tube inserted into your vein).
  • Do not use if you have a high risk of bleeding because you are taking medicines that prevent blood clotting (anticoagulation).
  • Your blood pressure, fluid, salt, and acid levels, kidney function, blood sugar, and phosphate levels will be carefully monitored before and during treatment.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking, as their levels in your blood might change during hemofiltration.
