How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 60 mg once a day, but your doctor will tell you the right dose for you; for anxiety, the dose might start at 30 mg and go up to 120 mg daily.

Method

Take the capsule whole with water, with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than your doctor prescribes, with a maximum daily dose of 120 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, drowsiness
  • Nausea, dry mouth
  • Loss of appetite
  • Trouble sleeping, feeling anxious or agitated, decreased sex drive, unusual dreams
  • Dizziness, feeling sluggish, trembling, numbness or tingling
  • Blurred vision
  • Constipation, diarrhea, stomach ache, vomiting, heartburn, indigestion
  • Increased sweating, rash
  • Muscle pain, muscle cramps
  • Fatigue
RARE
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Fainting, vertigo, dizziness or lightheadedness when standing up
  • Liver inflammation, causing stomach pain and yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Difficulty or inability to urinate, difficulty starting urination
  • Severe allergic reaction with breathing difficulties, dizziness, and swelling of the tongue or lips
  • Serotonin syndrome (symptoms include agitation, hallucinations, rapid heartbeat, muscle stiffness, high fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)
  • Inflammation of blood vessels in the skin (cutaneous vasculitis)
  • Symptoms of stress cardiomyopathy, such as chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting, irregular heartbeat

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to duloxetine or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not take if you have liver disease or severe kidney disease.
  • Do not use if you have taken certain other medicines for depression (called MAO inhibitors) in the last 14 days.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have high blood pressure, heart problems, a history of seizures, or glaucoma.
  • Be careful when taking other medicines, including St. John's Wort, as some can cause a serious condition called serotonin syndrome.

  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy or dizzy, so do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor or go to a hospital right away.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as it can cause withdrawal symptoms like dizziness or tingling sensations.
