How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 40 mg twice a day (morning and late afternoon/evening); your doctor might start you on 20 mg twice a day for two weeks.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not crush or chew it. Take your medicine at the same time each day.

Important

Do not take more than your doctor prescribed, which is a maximum of 80 mg per day.

  • Palpitations, fast/irregular heartbeat, fainting

  • Vomiting blood or black tarry stools, gut inflammation, mouth inflammation, burping, difficulty swallowing, flatulence, bad breath
  • Liver inflammation (abdominal pain, yellow skin/eyes), itchy rash, night sweats, hives, cold sweats, increased bruising
  • Muscle pain, stiffness, spasms, jaw muscle contraction
  • Difficulty urinating (trouble starting, painful, needing to urinate at night, frequent urination, abnormal smell)
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding, menopausal symptoms
  • Chest pain, feeling cold/hot, thirst, weight loss/gain
  • Severe allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, dizziness, swelling of tongue and lips)
  • Low blood sodium (especially in elderly: dizziness, weakness, confusion, drowsiness, severe fatigue, nausea, malaise; severe: fainting, seizures, falls); SIADH (a hormone disorder)
  • Suicidal thoughts and behavior, mania (overactive, restless thoughts, less need for sleep), hallucinations, aggressive behavior, anger
  • Serotonin syndrome (feeling of intense happiness, drowsiness, clumsiness, restlessness, feeling drunk, fever, sweating, stiff muscles, seizures, sudden involuntary muscle movements, lack of muscle coordination, restless legs)
  • Increased eye pressure (glaucoma)
  • Dizziness/lightheadedness when standing up, cold fingers and/or toes
  • Throat tightness, nosebleeds
  • Cough, wheezing and shortness of breath, possibly with high fever
  • Bright red blood in stools, colon inflammation (causing diarrhea)
  • Liver failure, yellowing of skin/whites of eyes (jaundice)
  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome (severe skin blistering), severe allergic reaction (swelling of face/throat, angioedema), sun sensitivity
  • Muscle twitches
  • Difficulty or inability to urinate, more frequent urination than usual, weak urine stream
  • Menstrual problems (heavy, painful, irregular, prolonged, unusually light or absent periods), abnormal breast milk production
  • Excessive vaginal bleeding soon after childbirth
  • Falls (usually in elderly), abnormal gait
  • Inflammation of blood vessels in the skin (cutaneous vasculitis)
  • Signs and symptoms of stress-induced cardiomyopathy (chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting, irregular heartbeat)

Important Warnings

  • DO NOT take if you are allergic to duloxetine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • DO NOT take if you have liver disease.
  • DO NOT take if you have severe kidney disease.
  • DO NOT take if you are taking or have taken MAO inhibitors (a type of antidepressant) in the last 14 days.
  • DO NOT take if you are taking fluvoxamine (for depression) or ciprofloxacin/enoxacin (for infections).

  • Talk to your doctor if you have high blood pressure or heart disease.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking if you are taking other medicines for depression or St. John's Wort.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a history of seizures, mania, or bipolar disorder.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have eye problems like glaucoma (high pressure in the eye).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have bleeding problems (tendency to bruise easily), especially if you are pregnant.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are at risk for low sodium levels (e.g., taking diuretics, are elderly).
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking other medicines that can cause liver damage or contain duloxetine.
  • If you feel restless or cannot sit or stand still, tell your doctor.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms of serotonin syndrome (like restlessness, hallucinations, fast heartbeat, fever, nausea, vomiting).
  • This medicine can cause sexual side effects, which may continue even after stopping treatment.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor or go to a hospital right away.
  • Do not drive or use machines until you know how this medicine affects you, as it can cause drowsiness and dizziness.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are breastfeeding, as Duloxetine Accordpharma is not recommended during breastfeeding.
