How to Use

Dosage

Usually 40 mg twice a day (morning and evening). Your doctor may start with 20 mg twice a day for two weeks before increasing the dose.

Method

Take the capsule whole with water by mouth.

Important

The maximum dose is usually 80 mg per day, but always follow your doctor's instructions.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea, dry mouth, constipation
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Sleep problems (e.g., difficulty sleeping, poor sleep quality), restlessness, anxiety, decreased sex drive
  • Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, tremor, numbness or tingling skin
  • Blurred vision
  • Vertigo (spinning sensation)
  • High blood pressure, flushing (red face)
  • Increased sweating
  • Diarrhea, stomach pain, vomiting, heartburn, or general digestive problems
  • Weakness, muscle twitches
RARE
  • Sore throat with hoarse voice
  • Allergic reactions
  • Underactive thyroid (can cause fatigue and weight gain)
  • Dehydration
  • Teeth grinding, jaw clenching, feeling confused, lack of motivation, difficulty with orgasm, unusual dreams
  • Nervousness, trouble focusing, taste changes, poor sleep
  • Eye problems (e.g., dilated pupils, vision issues, dry eyes, increased eye pressure/glaucoma)
  • Ringing in ears (tinnitus), ear pain
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat, palpitations
  • Increased yawning
  • Digestive issues (vomiting blood, black tarry stools, gut inflammation, mouth inflammation, belching, trouble swallowing, gas, bad breath)
  • Liver issues (inflammation, stomach pain, yellow skin/eyes, itchy rash, night sweats, hives, cold sweats, easy bruising, liver failure)
  • Muscle and nerve issues (pain, stiffness, cramps, jaw muscle spasm, twitching, poor muscle control, restless legs)
  • Urination problems (difficulty starting, painful, frequent urination, needing to urinate at night, abnormal urine smell, weak urine flow)
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding, menopause symptoms
  • Chest pain, feeling cold or hot, thirst
  • Weight changes (loss or gain)
  • Severe allergic reaction (trouble breathing, dizziness, swelling of tongue and lips), angioedema
  • Low salt in blood (dizziness, weakness, confusion, drowsiness, severe tiredness, nausea, vomiting; severe symptoms: fainting, seizures, falls), SIADH (a hormone problem)
  • Suicidal behavior or thoughts, mania (overactivity, racing thoughts, less need for sleep), hallucinations, aggressive behavior, anger
  • Serotonin syndrome (e.g., feeling overly happy, drowsy, clumsy, restless, drunk, fever, sweating, stiff muscles), seizures, sudden muscle jerks/twitches, inability to sit/stand still, poor muscle control (clumsiness, shaky movements), restless legs
  • Dizziness/lightheadedness when standing up, cold fingers or toes
  • Throat tightness, nosebleeds
  • Cough, wheezing, shortness of breath, possibly with high fever
  • Bright red blood in stools, colon inflammation (which can cause diarrhea)
  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome (a severe skin blistering illness), severe allergic reaction (swelling of face/throat), sun sensitivity
  • Falls (mostly in elderly people), abnormal walking
  • Inflammation of blood vessels in skin (cutaneous vasculitis)
  • Stress cardiomyopathy (signs/symptoms: chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting, irregular heartbeat)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to duloxetine or have severe liver or kidney disease.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are taking or have taken MAO inhibitors in the last 14 days, or if you are taking fluvoxamine, ciprofloxacin, or enoxacin.
  • Talk to your doctor before use if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, seizures, glaucoma, bleeding disorders, or if you are taking antidepressants or St. John's Wort.
  • This medicine may cause suicidal thoughts or worsen depression/anxiety, especially in young adults. Contact a doctor immediately if you have such thoughts.
  • Duloxetin Stada may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medicine affects you.

  • Not recommended for children and adolescents under 18.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The medicine is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • If Duloxetin Stada causes restlessness or inability to sit or stand still, tell your doctor.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms of serotonin syndrome, such as restlessness, hallucinations, rapid heartbeat, fever, or vomiting.
