How to Use

Dosage

For adults and adolescents (12-18 years): Initially 200 mg, then 100-200 mg daily depending on the infection. For children 8-12 years, dosage is weight-based and decided by a doctor.

Method

Take the tablets with food and plenty of liquid. Swallow them while sitting or standing upright, not right before bedtime, to avoid irritation.

Important

The maximum daily dose for 100 mg tablets is usually 200 mg, and for 150 mg tablets, it can be up to 300 mg if needed, as directed by your doctor.

  • New infections, like yeast infections in the mouth or vagina
  • Headache
  • Skin becoming sensitive to sunlight, allergic skin reactions
  • Vaginal inflammation
  • Blood problems (like low red blood cells or platelets)
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., swelling, trouble breathing, serious skin rash)
  • Increased pressure in the brain (symptoms like blurry vision, double vision, headache)
  • Inflammation or ulcers in the throat or esophagus, stomach pain
  • Tooth discoloration (in children under 8)
  • Liver problems (e.g., inflammation, jaundice, liver failure)
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Low blood sugar
  • Swelling in hands or feet

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to doxycycline, other tetracyclines, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as it can harm bone and tooth development in the baby.
  • Do not give to children under 8 years old, as it can permanently stain their developing teeth.
  • Avoid strong sunlight and tanning beds during treatment, as this medicine can make your skin more sensitive to the sun.
  • Do not take with milk or dairy products, or iron/zinc/calcium/magnesium supplements, as they can reduce the absorption of the medicine. Take Doximycin 1-2 hours before or after them.

  • Avoid alcohol during treatment, as it can reduce the effectiveness of Doximycin.
  • Contact your doctor if you get severe diarrhea during treatment. Do not use medicines that slow down bowel movements.
  • This medicine can sometimes increase pressure in the brain, especially with high doses. If you experience vision changes, contact your doctor.

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium and aluminium reduce absorption. Protect yourself from excessive exposure to sunlight because of the risk of burning the skin. (updated 6.11.2023)
