How to Use

Dosage

For adults and children aged 12–18, treatment usually starts with 200 mg on the first day, followed by a lower dose as directed by your doctor. For children aged 8–12, the dose is as directed by your doctor.

Method

Take tablets with plenty of water, preferably with a meal to reduce stomach upset. Avoid taking just before bedtime.

Important

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, and rash (Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction)
  • Skin sensitivity to light (photosensitivity reactions)
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Tongue inflammation
  • Nausea
  • Indigestion
  • Stomach pain
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Inflammation or ulcers in the esophagus
  • Colon inflammation (pseudomembranous colitis)
  • Mouth inflammation
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Allergic reactions
  • Hives (itchy rash)
  • Severe allergic reactions like anaphylactic shock (a sudden, severe allergic reaction that can include low blood pressure and shortness of breath)
  • Swelling (in face, throat, hands, or feet)
  • Rash
  • Skin darkening
  • Blistering and peeling skin (severe skin reactions)
  • Nail detachment due to light exposure
  • Drug-induced rash
  • Tooth discoloration (permanent or temporary)
  • Tooth enamel development problems
  • Changes in blood counts (e.g., low red blood cells, platelets, and white blood cells, high eosinophils)
  • Headache
  • Increased pressure inside the skull (with symptoms like blurred vision, blind spots, double vision, permanent vision loss)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes)
  • Liver failure
  • Increased liver enzyme values
  • Vaginal inflammation
  • Local inflammation in the anal and genital areas
  • Joint pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Increased blood urea
  • Black hairy tongue

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to doxycycline, other tetracyclines, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, as the medicine can affect the development of teeth and bones.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not give to children under 8 years old, as it can cause permanent tooth discoloration or damage.
  • Avoid products containing aluminum, calcium, magnesium, or iron 2–3 hours before or after taking Doximed.

  • Avoid strong sunlight during treatment, as the medicine can make your skin sensitive to the sun and cause a rash. If a rash appears, stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor.
  • Doximed can affect laboratory test results, so tell your doctor about your medication before any tests.
  • Use alcohol cautiously, as it may reduce the effectiveness of Doximed.
  • Finish the entire course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor, even if your symptoms disappear, to prevent the infection from returning and bacteria from developing resistance.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium and aluminium reduce absorption. Protect yourself from excessive exposure to sunlight because of the risk of burning the skin. (updated 6.11.2023)
