How to Use

Dosage

For preventing blood clots after hip or knee surgery, take one 10 mg tablet once a day. For treating existing blood clots and preventing new ones, your doctor will decide if you take one 10 mg or one 20 mg tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. You can take it with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day. If you cannot swallow it, you can crush the tablet and mix it with water or applesauce just before taking it.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose based on your condition.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low red blood cell count, which may make your skin pale, cause weakness or shortness of breath.
  • Bleeding (e.g., in your stomach or intestines, urinary or genital tract including blood in urine or heavy menstrual bleeding, nose, gums, eyes, under the skin, or from surgical wounds).
  • Bloody cough.
  • Leakage of blood or fluid from a surgical wound.
  • Swelling or pain in your arms or legs.
  • Poor kidney function (may be seen in blood tests).
  • Fever.
  • Stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhea.
  • Low blood pressure, which may make you feel dizzy or faint when standing up.
  • General weakness, fatigue, headache, or dizziness.
  • Skin rash or itchy skin.
  • Increased liver enzymes (may be seen in blood tests).
RARE
  • Bleeding in the brain or inside the skull, bleeding into a joint causing pain and swelling.
  • Low number of platelets (cells that help blood clot).
  • Allergic reactions, including allergic skin reactions.
  • Liver problems (may be seen in blood tests), including increased bilirubin, some pancreatic or liver enzymes.
  • Fainting or feeling unwell.
  • Fast heart rate.
  • Dry mouth or hives.
  • Bleeding into a muscle.
  • Bile flow obstruction (cholestasis), hepatitis (inflammation of the liver, including liver damage), yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice).
  • Local swelling.
  • Blood clot (hematoma) in the groin after a heart procedure.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to rivaroxaban or any other ingredients in Dovequa.
  • Do not take if you have severe bleeding, a condition that increases your risk of serious bleeding (like stomach ulcers, brain bleeding, or recent brain or eye surgery), or severe liver disease.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are using other blood thinning medicines (like warfarin, dabigatran, apixaban, or heparin), unless your doctor has specifically told you to switch treatments.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you can get pregnant, use reliable birth control while taking this medicine.
  • If you need surgery or a spinal injection, tell your doctor. It's very important to take Dovequa at the times your doctor tells you before and after the procedure. Report any numbness or weakness in your legs immediately after a spinal anesthetic.

  • This medicine can cause dizziness or fainting. Do not drive or operate machines if you have these symptoms.
  • Do not stop taking Dovequa without talking to your doctor first, as stopping can lead to serious health problems.
