How to Use

Dosage

For stopping breast milk, the usual dose is two 0.5 mg tablets within 24 hours. For high prolactin levels, the starting dose is one 0.5 mg tablet per week. Your doctor may change this dose based on your needs.

Method

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Take the tablets with food and a drink to help reduce side effects like nausea or stomach pain.

Important

For stopping breast milk production, the maximum daily dose is two 0.5 mg tablets (1 mg total) within 24 hours. For other conditions, your doctor will tell you your maximum daily dose.

  • Vision changes (like temporary partial vision loss)
  • Blood vessel issues (like cold fingers/toes, fainting)
  • Nosebleeds
  • Hair loss
  • Skin rash or swelling
  • Allergic reactions
  • Leg cramps
  • Increased sexual desire or impulse control problems (like gambling, overeating, excessive shopping)
  • Sudden urges to sleep
  • Tremors
  • Upper abdominal pain
  • Abnormal liver test results or changes in blood tests

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to cabergoline, similar medicines (dopamine agonists), or any other ingredient in Dostinex.
  • If you are taking Dostinex for a long time and have or have had scar tissue problems (fibrosis) in your heart, lungs, or stomach.
  • If you have severe liver problems.
  • If you have heart or blood vessel disease, stomach ulcers, bleeding in your gut, low blood pressure, or high blood pressure after childbirth.
  • If you have severe mental health problems, especially psychosis (seeing or hearing things that aren't there).

  • If you or your family notice you have strong urges to act in unusual ways, such as gambling, overeating, excessive shopping, or increased sexual urges.
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy or cause you to fall asleep suddenly. Do not drive or use machines if this happens.
