Dorzolamid/Timolol Sandoz is an eye drop that lowers high eye pressure in glaucoma treatment when other eye drops alone are not enough.

How to Use

Dosage

One drop in the affected eye(s) twice a day.

Method

Wash your hands. Tilt your head back, pull down your lower eyelid to form a pocket. Invert the bottle and gently squeeze one drop into the eye. Do not touch your eye or eyelid with the tip of the bottle. Close your eye and press the inner corner for about two minutes to prevent the medicine from spreading.

Important

The maximum daily dose is one drop in each affected eye twice a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Burning and stinging in the eye(s)
  • Unusual taste in the mouth
  • Headache
  • Redness in and around the eye(s)
  • Watery or itchy eyes
  • Eyelid inflammation, eye irritation (e.g., dry eyes)
  • Decreased sensitivity of the eye
  • Corneal inflammation or damage to the front part of the eyeball
  • Sinus inflammation
  • Nausea
  • Weakness or tiredness
  • Swelling and/or irritation in or around the eye(s)
  • Feeling of something in the eye
  • Eye pain
  • Blurred vision
RARE
  • Allergic reactions, including swelling under the skin (face or limb swelling), difficulty breathing or swallowing, hives, rash, and itching
  • Severe, sudden, life-threatening allergic reaction
  • Severe skin reactions (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, with mouth/lip/skin sores and skin peeling)
  • Dizziness
  • Depression
  • Inflammation of the iris and ciliary body (eye parts)
  • Vision disturbances, e.g., changes in refractive power (sometimes due to stopping pupil-constricting medicine)
  • Slow heartbeat
  • Sudden loss of consciousness
  • Shortness of breath or respiratory failure
  • Digestive problems (e.g., abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea)
  • Kidney stones
  • Unusual sensations like tingling or crawling skin
  • Insomnia or nightmares
  • Decreased sex drive or sexual dysfunction
  • Stroke (brain infarct or hemorrhage)
  • Swelling of the cornea (with vision disturbances)
  • Detachment of the layer under the retina after filtration surgery (which may cause vision disturbances)
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Low or high blood pressure
  • Chest pain
  • Heart rhythm disorders (irregular heartbeat) or increased heart rate
  • Reduced blood flow to the brain (cerebral ischemia)
  • Congestive heart failure or cardiac arrest
  • Cold hands and feet or Raynaud's phenomenon (numb or cold toes and fingers)
  • Swelling (fluid retention)
  • Runny nose and breathing difficulties (e.g., shortness of breath or wheezing), cough, or nosebleed
  • Dry mouth
  • Hair loss
  • Psoriasis-like rash or worsening of psoriasis
  • Peyronie's disease (curvature of the penis)
  • Low eye pressure
  • SLE or lupus symptoms (e.g., facial rash, joint pain, muscle disorders, fever)
  • Memory loss
  • Worsening myasthenia gravis symptoms (a muscle disease)
  • Temporary nearsightedness that may resolve when treatment is stopped
  • Drooping eyelid (eye stays half-closed) or double vision
  • Leg cramps and/or pain when walking (intermittent claudication)
  • Bronchospasm (tightening of airways, mainly in patients with existing airway disease)
  • Contact dermatitis (skin rash from contact)
  • Rarely, swelling of lips, eyes, or mouth, wheezing, or severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Strong heartbeats that may be fast or irregular (palpitations)
  • Low blood sugar levels
  • Muscle pain not caused by exercise
  • Hallucinations

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to dorzolamide, timolol, beta-blockers, sulfonamides, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have or have had breathing problems like asthma or severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
  • Do not use if you have a slow heart rate, heart failure, or irregular heartbeat.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney problems or have had kidney stones.
  • Do not use if you have increased blood acidity due to high chloride levels (hyperchloremic acidosis).

  • Do not use during pregnancy or if you are breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor or dentist if you are using this medicine before any surgery or anesthesia.
  • Remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them, as this medicine contains benzalkonium chloride which can be absorbed by soft contact lenses.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness and vision problems, which can affect your ability to drive or use machines. If you experience these symptoms, do not drive or operate machinery.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you get an eye infection, eye injury, have eye surgery, or notice new or worsening eye symptoms (like redness, irritation, swelling, or itching).
