How to Use

Dosage

The recommended daily dose is one or two 12.5 mg Dormix tablets, or one 25 mg Dormix tablet.

Method

Take the tablet whole with enough liquid (preferably water) 30 minutes before going to bed. You can take it with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than two 12.5 mg Dormix tablets (25 mg total) or one 25 mg Dormix tablet per day.

  • Swelling in arms and legs
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Dizziness when standing up too quickly
  • Double vision
  • Indigestion
  • Feeling relaxed
  • Nightmares
  • Shortness of breath
  • Agitation (especially in older people)
  • Tremors
  • Seizures
  • Blood disorders (like low counts of certain blood cells)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Dormix if you are allergic to doxylamine or any other ingredient in this medicine, or to other antihistamines.
  • Do not take Dormix if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not take Dormix if you have a severe lung disease like asthma or emphysema.
  • Do not take Dormix if you have glaucoma (high pressure in the eye).
  • Do not take Dormix if you have an enlarged prostate or difficulty urinating.

  • Do not take Dormix if you have a stomach ulcer or a blocked digestive tract.
  • Do not take Dormix if you are taking certain other medicines, such as those for depression, Parkinson's disease, heart rhythm problems, or infections.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking Dormix if you have severe kidney or liver disease.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine for more than 7 days unless your doctor tells you to.
  • Dormix is not recommended for children under 18 years old.
  • Do not drive or operate dangerous machinery while taking Dormix, especially during the first few days, as it can make you drowsy.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Sedative. Increases risk of falls. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 19.9.2025)
