How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will usually start you on 400 mg (two 200 mg capsules). After this, the usual maintenance dose is 150-300 mg three times a day.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole without chewing, with plenty of liquid, preferably sitting or standing to avoid irritation.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 1200 mg (six 200 mg capsules). Do not take more than 300 mg at one time.

  • Erectile dysfunction (difficulty getting or keeping an erection)
  • Liver dysfunction (shown in blood tests)
  • Severe decrease in white blood cells (increases infection risk)
  • Heart failure
  • Liver damage, including hepatitis (inflammation of the liver)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Dopital if you are allergic to mexiletine hydrochloride or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to local anaesthetics like lidocaine.
  • Do not use if you have certain severe heart rhythm problems (like sick sinus syndrome or very slow heartbeat) unless you have a pacemaker.
  • Do not use if you have a hereditary long QT syndrome (other than type 3) that can cause severe rhythm problems.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience a severe allergic reaction (e.g., severe rash with fever) or sudden changes in heart rhythm (e.g., very fast or slow heart rate, chest pain, dizziness, fainting).
