How to Use

Dosage

The recommended starting dose for all uses is 2.5 mg amiloride and 25 mg hydrochlorothiazide once daily. Your dose will be adjusted individually.

Method

It is recommended to take the tablet in the morning on an empty stomach with a sufficient amount of fluid, such as a glass of water.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 10 mg amiloride and 100 mg hydrochlorothiazide.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, weakness, dizziness, tiredness
  • Nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhea, stomach pain
  • Skin rash and itching
  • Heart rhythm problems
  • Shortness of breath
  • High blood sugar, high uric acid levels (may lead to gout symptoms), high potassium in blood
  • Pain in limbs
RARE
  • Bad taste in mouth, dry mouth, vomiting, feeling full, constipation, gas, indigestion
  • Fast heartbeat and chest pain from exertion
  • Stuffy nose and hiccups
  • Dehydration, thirst, gout, low sodium in blood
  • Muscle cramps, joint pain, chest and back pain
  • Impotence
  • Dizziness upon standing (orthostatic hypotension)
  • Sleep disturbances, nervousness, depression, confusion
  • Increased nighttime urination, difficulty urinating, urinary incontinence
  • Vision problems
  • Decreased glucose tolerance
  • High cholesterol and triglyceride levels in blood
  • Sensory disturbances, increased sweating
  • Low potassium and magnesium, high calcium in blood
  • Decreased blood acidity (alkalosis), metabolic acidosis
  • Fainting and severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
  • Bleeding in digestive tract, inflammation of blood vessels, worsened kidney function
  • Bile duct blockage, jaundice, yellow vision (xanthopsia), cough, hives
  • Changes in blood count, anemia, reduced or absent white blood cells
  • Tremors, brain disease (encephalopathy), increased eye pressure, ringing in ears, lung inflammation, acute respiratory distress syndrome (severe shortness of breath, fever, weakness, confusion)
  • Mouth inflammation, mouth sores, salivary gland inflammation, pancreatitis
  • Redness and red spots on skin, light sensitivity, hair loss, kidney inflammation
  • Skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma skin cancer)
  • Vision impairment or eye pain due to high pressure (fluid accumulation in the eye or acute angle-closure glaucoma)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to amiloride, hydrochlorothiazide, other ingredients in this medicine, or sulfa antibiotics.
  • Do not use if your blood potassium level is too high (hyperkalemia, S-K over 5.1 mmol/l) or if you are taking other medicines that increase potassium.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease related to diabetes or any other severe kidney disease.
  • Hydrochlorothiazide can increase the risk of certain types of skin and lip cancer. Protect your skin from sun and UV rays while taking Diuramin.
  • If you experience blurred vision, eye pain, or severe breathing difficulties, seek immediate medical attention.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
