How to Use

Dosage

The recommended starting dose is 2.5 mg amiloride and 25 mg hydrochlorothiazide once daily.

Method

Take the tablets preferably in the morning on an empty stomach with enough liquid, such as a glass of water.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 10 mg amiloride and 100 mg hydrochlorothiazide.

  • Sleep problems, nervousness, depression, and confusion
  • Increased night urination, difficulty urinating, and urinary incontinence
  • Vision problems
  • Reduced glucose tolerance
  • High cholesterol and triglyceride levels in blood

  • Increased sweating
  • Low potassium and magnesium, high calcium in blood
  • Reduced blood acidity (alkalosis)
  • Metabolic acidosis
  • Fainting and sudden severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
  • Bleeding in the digestive tract
  • Blood vessel inflammation
  • Worsening kidney function
  • Bile duct blockage, jaundice, yellow vision (xanthopsia)
  • Cough and hives
  • Changes in blood count and anemia
  • Decreased or complete lack of white blood cells
  • Tremors and brain disease (encephalopathy)
  • Increased eye pressure, ringing in ears, lung inflammation, acute respiratory distress syndrome (signs include severe shortness of breath, fever, weakness, and confusion)
  • Mouth inflammation, mouth ulcers, salivary gland inflammation, pancreatitis
  • Skin redness and red spots, light sensitivity, hair loss, kidney inflammation
  • Skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma)
  • Vision impairment or eye pain due to high pressure (possible signs of fluid accumulation in the choroid of the eye or acute angle-closure glaucoma)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to amiloride, hydrochlorothiazide, other ingredients in this medicine, or sulfa antibiotics.
  • Do not use if your blood potassium level is too high (over 5.1 mmol/l).
  • Do not use if you are taking other medicines that increase blood potassium levels.
  • Do not use if you have kidney disease related to diabetes.
  • Do not use if you have any other severe kidney disease.

  • Do not use during pregnancy.
  • Do not use while breastfeeding.
  • Protect your skin from sunlight and UV rays when using this medicine due to the risk of skin cancer.
  • If you experience blurred vision or eye pain, seek immediate medical attention as it could lead to permanent vision loss.
  • If you develop severe shortness of breath or breathing difficulties, seek immediate medical attention.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
