How to Use

Dosage

Take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.

Method

Drink plenty of fluids during treatment. Take the medicine at the same time each day and complete the full course as prescribed by your doctor.

Important

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.

  • Decrease in white blood cell count
  • Hives
  • Vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency
  • Anemia
  • Decrease in granulocytes in blood
  • Decrease in all types of blood cells
  • Decrease in platelets
  • Life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
  • Sudden localized swelling in the skin, mucous membranes, or internal organs (angioedema)
  • Serum sickness
  • Allergic and hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., hives, fever, mucosal swelling)
  • Increased potassium and decreased sodium levels in blood
  • Meningitis
  • Conjunctivitis, inflammation of the choroid of the eye
  • Lung changes
  • Severe colitis, stomatitis
  • Bile duct obstruction, necrotic liver damage
  • Various severe or life-threatening rashes, such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), photosensitivity
  • Muscle pain
  • Acute kidney inflammation, crystal urine (crystalluria)
  • Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN)
  • Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP), with symptoms like fever, skin redness, and pus-filled blisters
  • Blood clotting disorder, vascular disease
  • Allergic inflammation of the heart muscle
  • Depression, hallucinations
  • Inability to coordinate voluntary movements, brain disease, headache, insomnia, convulsions, vertigo, nerve inflammation, ringing in the ears
  • Loss of appetite
  • Liver inflammation, changes in liver values
  • Joint pain
  • Kidney stones
  • Drug fever, chills
  • Purplish, raised, painful sores on limbs, sometimes face and neck, with fever (Sweet's syndrome)
  • Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to trimethoprim, sulfadiazine, other sulfa antibiotics, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver or kidney problems.
  • Do not take if you have certain blood disorders, like problems with red blood cell formation or G6PD deficiency.
  • Do not take if you have porphyria (a rare blood disorder).
  • This medicine can affect your blood. Call a doctor right away if you get a sore throat, fever, pale skin, or purple spots on your skin, as these can be signs of serious blood problems.

  • This medicine can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so avoid direct sun exposure.
  • If you get bloody or very bad diarrhea during treatment, stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away.
  • This medicine can cause severe skin reactions like rashes, blisters, or skin peeling. If you get a rash, fever, or red spots with blisters, stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away. If you have had these severe skin reactions before with Ditrim duplo, you must never take it again.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if your cough gets worse suddenly or if you have trouble breathing.
  • In rare cases, this medicine can cause a severe immune reaction. If you get a fever, swollen glands, feel weak, dizzy, short of breath, bruise easily, or get a rash, contact your doctor right away.
  • Taking Ditrim duplo with certain other medicines, potassium supplements, or high-potassium foods can lead to too much potassium in your blood. This can cause muscle cramps, an irregular heartbeat, diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, or headache.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Contraindicated in case of severe hepatic impairment. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Consider the risks when used in combination with medicines that predispose to hyperkalaemia and are myelotoxic. (updated 6.11.2023)
