How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually take 2 capsules, twice a day.

Method

Take the capsules regularly right after a meal. Swallow them whole.

Important

Do not take more than 4 capsules per day, unless your doctor tells you to.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea (often goes away, but contact doctor if severe or long-lasting)
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Rash
  • Joint pain
RARE
  • Fever
  • Low platelet count (may cause easy bruising or bleeding)
  • Vomiting
  • Indigestion
  • High liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
  • Itching
  • Hair loss
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Hives
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Muscle pain
  • Dizziness
  • Tingling or numbness (pins and needles)
  • Depression
  • Blood disorders (e.g., severe anemia, low white blood cells, low platelets)
  • Upper stomach pain
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Liver inflammation
  • High bilirubin levels (may cause yellow skin/eyes)
  • Swelling of face, tongue, or throat (angioedema), which can cause breathing difficulties
  • Heart inflammation (myocarditis, pericarditis)
  • Palpitations
  • Kidney inflammation
  • Lung disease
  • Nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy)
  • Blurred vision

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to olsalazine sodium, other salicylates (like aspirin), or any other ingredients in Dipentum.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking Dipentum if you have kidney or liver problems, severe allergies, asthma, or if you are taking certain cancer medicines (6-mercaptopurine, thioguanine), blood thinners (warfarin, heparin), or recently had a chickenpox vaccine.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you get a fever, sore throat, mouth sores, bruises, or bleeding. These could be signs of a serious blood infection.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as there is limited experience with Dipentum in these situations.
