Diovan Comp contains two active ingredients, valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide, which work together to lower high blood pressure when a single medicine is not enough.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one Diovan Comp tablet per day.

Method

Take the tablet at the same time each day, usually in the morning, with or without food, swallowed whole with a glass of water.

Important

Do not take more than one tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Cough
  • Low blood pressure
  • Dizziness or light-headedness
  • Dehydration (symptoms like thirst, dry mouth, less frequent urination, dark urine, dry skin)
  • Muscle pain
  • Tiredness
  • Tingling or numbness
  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing or buzzing in the ears (tinnitus)
RARE
  • Feeling of spinning (vertigo)
  • Diarrhea
  • Joint pain
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, with difficulty breathing or swallowing (angioedema) - seek immediate medical help.
  • Severe skin reactions like rash, redness, blisters on lips, eyes or mouth, peeling skin, and fever (toxic epidermal necrolysis) - seek urgent medical help.
  • Decreased vision or pain in your eyes due to high pressure (acute narrow-angle glaucoma) - contact your doctor.
  • Fever, sore throat, or frequent infections (due to low white blood cells) - consult a doctor.
  • Acute respiratory distress syndrome (severe shortness of breath, fever, weakness, confusion) - seek immediate medical attention.

Important Warnings

  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience swelling of the face, tongue or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives, and difficulty breathing (angioedema).
  • Get urgent medical help if you develop a severe skin condition with rash, redness, blisters on lips, eyes or mouth, peeling skin, and fever (toxic epidermal necrolysis).
  • Contact your doctor if you experience decreased vision or eye pain due to high pressure (possible signs of fluid buildup in the eye or acute angle-closure glaucoma).
  • Consult a doctor if you have fever, sore throat, or frequent infections (which could be due to low white blood cells).
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you develop acute respiratory distress syndrome, with symptoms such as severe shortness of breath, fever, weakness, and confusion.

  • Do not use Diovan Comp if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, especially after the first 3 months, as it can harm your baby.
  • Diovan Comp is not recommended if you are breastfeeding.
  • Hydrochlorothiazide can increase the risk of skin and lip cancer. Protect your skin from sun and UV light while taking this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
