How to Use

Dosage

Starting dose: 120 mg twice a day for the first 7 days. After that, the usual dose is 240 mg twice a day.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water. Do not divide, crush, dissolve, suck, or chew the capsules. Take with food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 480 mg.

  • Facial flushing, feeling warm, hot, burning, or itchy
  • Diarrhea

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to dimethyl fumarate or any other ingredient, or if you have or suspect a rare brain infection called PML.
  • Your doctor will do regular blood tests to check your white blood cell count, kidneys, and liver, as this medicine can affect them.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe kidney or liver disease, stomach or bowel problems, or a serious infection like pneumonia.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you think you have shingles, which is a viral infection that can occur with this medicine.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if your MS symptoms worsen or you notice new symptoms, as these could be signs of a rare, very serious brain infection called PML.

  • If you notice you're urinating more, are very thirsty, have weak muscles, bone pain, or fractures, tell your doctor quickly, as these could be signs of a rare kidney problem.
  • Do not give this medicine to children under 10 years old.
  • Avoid strong alcoholic drinks (over 30% alcohol) for one hour after taking this medicine, as it can cause stomach inflammation.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, unless your doctor says it is absolutely necessary.
