How to Use

Dosage

For adults and children over 10: Usually 0.75-1.5 mg once to start, or 0.25-0.75 mg daily for a week. The daily dose for continued use is usually 0.125-0.25 mg.

Method

Take these tablets by mouth exactly as your doctor tells you. You can take them with or without food, but avoid high-fiber meals, as they can reduce how much medicine your body absorbs.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness
  • Vision problems (blurred or yellow-green vision)
  • Irregular heartbeats, changes in heart's electrical activity (ECG changes)
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Allergic skin reactions (rash, hives)
RARE
  • Depression
  • Low platelet count (easy bruising, nosebleeds)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Mental changes (psychosis, apathy, confusion)
  • Headache
  • Abnormal heart rate (other than common irregular heartbeats)
  • Severe stomach pain, caused by poor blood flow to the intestines which can lead to damage
  • Breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia)
  • Fatigue, general feeling of being unwell, weakness

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you have certain severe heart blockages or have had Adams-Stokes attacks (sudden fainting due to heart rhythm changes).
  • Do not take if your irregular heartbeats are caused by too much digoxin in your body.
  • Do not take if you have a condition affecting nerve signals between your heart's upper and lower chambers (e.g., Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome).
  • Do not take if you have or have had very fast and irregular heartbeats from your heart's lower chambers (ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation).
  • Do not take if you have a heart muscle disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

  • Do not take if you are allergic to digoxin, other similar heart medicines (cardiac glycosides), or any other ingredient in this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Maximun daily dose: 0,125 mg. In older adults, concentration should be less than 1.
