How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose for adults is one capsule as a single dose.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with water. You can take it with or without food.

Important

A single 150 mg dose is usually sufficient for treatment.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
  • Changes in liver blood test results
  • Rash
RARE
  • Fewer white blood cells or platelets, which can lead to infections or bleeding
  • Low potassium levels in the blood
  • Shaking or tremors
  • Abnormal heart rhythm or EKG changes
  • Liver failure, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Severe allergic reactions, including widespread blistering rash, peeling skin, and swelling of lips or face
  • Hair loss
  • Seizures, dizziness, vertigo
  • Fatigue, general discomfort, fever

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Diflucan if you are allergic to fluconazole or any other ingredients.
  • Do not use Diflucan at the same time as certain medicines, such as astemizole, terfenadine, cisapride, pimozide, quinidine, or erythromycin.
  • Stop taking this medicine immediately and see a doctor if you develop severe skin reactions, such as widespread rash, fever, or swollen lymph nodes.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, or a heart condition.
  • Do not use Diflucan during pregnancy unless specifically told by your doctor, as it may increase the risk of miscarriage or birth defects.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Risk of QT prolongation. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Monitor liver values. Consider the numerous potential interactions, especially with warfarin. (updated 4.12.2023)
