How to Use

Dosage

Take one tablet every day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a little water, with or without food, around the same time each day. Take one white active tablet daily for 21 days, followed by one green inactive tablet daily for 7 days. Start a new pack immediately after the 7 green tablets, without a break.

Important

One tablet per day. Do not take more than one tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

  • Headache
  • Breast pain, discomfort, or tenderness
  • Vaginal or external genital inflammation, including yeast infections
  • Increased appetite
  • Depressed mood
  • Migraine or dizziness (feeling like spinning)
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Stomach pain (including bloating), nausea (feeling sick), vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Acne, hair loss, rash, itching
  • Changes in periods (heavy, light, irregular, or no periods)
  • Spotting or bleeding between periods, painful periods
  • Vaginal discharge, ovarian cysts (fluid-filled sacs on ovaries), pain in internal reproductive organs, breast enlargement, breast swelling
  • Tiredness, weakness, general unwell feeling
  • Weight gain
RARE
  • Infections (e.g., inflammation of ovaries/fallopian tubes, urinary tract/bladder infection, breast/cervical inflammation, fungal infections like yeast, viral infections like cold sores, flu, bronchitis, sinus infection, upper respiratory infections)
  • Benign tumors (e.g., non-cancerous growths in the uterus or fatty tissue in breasts)
  • Anemia (low red blood cell count)
  • Allergic reactions
  • Virilism (developing male-like features)
  • Anorexia (loss of appetite)
  • Mood and sleep disorders (e.g., depression, mental problems, trouble sleeping, aggression)
  • Neurological issues (e.g., stroke, problems with brain or heart blood flow, muscle disorders causing unusual body positions, dry or irritated eyes, blurry vision, sudden hearing loss, ringing in the ears, dizziness, reduced hearing)
  • Heart and blood vessel issues (e.g., fast heart rate, vein inflammation, high blood pressure, dizziness or fainting upon standing, hot flashes, varicose veins, vein pain)
  • Dangerous blood clots in a vein or artery, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in a leg or foot, pulmonary embolism in the lungs, heart attack, stroke, mini-stroke (TIA), or blood clots in the liver, stomach/intestines, kidneys, or eyes
  • Breathing issues (e.g., asthma, fast or deep breathing)
  • Stomach and bowel issues (e.g., stomach lining inflammation, bowel inflammation, upper belly pain or digestive problems)
  • Skin problems (e.g., allergic skin inflammation, rash, psoriasis, heavy sweating, dark spots on skin, oily skin, dandruff, cellulite, red skin bumps with spider veins)
  • Bone, joint, and muscle pain (e.g., back pain, limb pain)
  • Reproductive and breast issues (e.g., changes in cervical cells, pain or cysts in ovaries/fallopian tubes, breast cysts, painful sex, breast discharge, period problems)
  • General body symptoms (e.g., chest pain, swollen hands, ankles or feet, flu-like symptoms, inflammation, fever, irritability, high fat levels in blood, weight changes, swelling of extra breast tissue present from birth)

Important Warnings

  • Combined contraceptives slightly increase the risk of blood clots, especially during the first year of use or after restarting use after a break of at least 4 weeks.
  • Monitor your health and see a doctor immediately if you suspect you have symptoms of a blood clot.
  • Dienorette does not protect against HIV (AIDS) or other sexually transmitted infections.
  • Do not use Dienorette if you have or have had blood clots in your legs, lungs, or other parts of your body.
  • Do not use Dienorette if you have a condition that affects blood clotting (e.g., protein C or S deficiency).

  • Do not use Dienorette if you need surgery or will be unable to move for a long time.
  • Do not use Dienorette if you have had a heart attack or stroke.
  • Do not use Dienorette if you have severe diabetes with blood vessel damage.
  • Do not use Dienorette if you have very high blood pressure.
  • Do not use Dienorette if you have very high levels of fat (cholesterol or triglycerides) in your blood.
  • Do not use Dienorette if you have migraines with aura.
  • Do not use Dienorette if you have had pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) due to very high blood fat levels.
  • Do not use Dienorette if you have severe liver disease that has not returned to normal, or a liver tumor.
  • Do not use Dienorette if you have or suspect breast or genital cancer that is sensitive to sex hormones.
  • Do not use Dienorette if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding.
  • Do not use Dienorette if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
