How to Use

Dosage

The starting dose is 0.6 mg once daily for at least one week. Your doctor may increase the dose to 1.2 mg and if needed to 1.8 mg once daily.

Method

Inject under the skin (subcutaneously) into the front of your thigh, stomach area, or upper arm. Change your injection site daily. You can take the medicine any time of day, regardless of meals, but preferably at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 1.8 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Symptoms can include cold sweat, pale skin, headache, fast heartbeat, nausea, intense hunger, vision changes, weakness, shaking.
  • Nausea.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Vomiting.
  • Headache.
  • Indigestion.
  • Stomach inflammation (gastritis). Symptoms include stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting.
  • Heartburn (GERD). Symptoms include heartburn.
  • Sore or swollen stomach.
  • Abdominal discomfort.
  • Constipation.
  • Gas (flatulence).
  • Reduced appetite.
  • Bronchitis.
  • Common cold.
  • Dizziness.
  • Increased heart rate.
  • Fatigue.
  • Toothache.
  • Injection site reactions (such as bruising, pain, irritation, itching, and rash).
  • Increased pancreatic enzyme levels (such as lipase and amylase).
RARE
  • Allergic reactions like itching and hives (a type of rash).
  • Dehydration, sometimes with worsened kidney function.
  • General feeling of unwellness.
  • Gallstones.
  • Gallbladder inflammation.
  • Changes in taste.
  • Delayed stomach emptying.
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with additional symptoms like difficulty breathing, swelling of the throat and face, rapid heartbeat, etc.
  • Bowel obstruction. A severe form of constipation with additional symptoms like stomach pain, abdominal bloating, vomiting, etc.
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). Symptoms: Severe and persistent stomach pain that may spread to the back, along with nausea and vomiting.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to liraglutide or any other ingredients in the medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have or have had a pancreas disease. If you experience sudden, severe stomach pain, contact a doctor immediately.
  • This medicine should not be used if you have Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. It is not a substitute for insulin.
  • Use of this medicine is not recommended if you have severe kidney disease (on dialysis), severe liver disease, or severe heart failure.
  • Use of this medicine is not recommended if you have severe stomach or bowel problems, such as slow stomach emptying or inflammatory bowel disease.

  • Contact your doctor if you have a thyroid disease, such as thyroid nodules or an enlarged thyroid gland.
  • You may experience dehydration if you have been vomiting or had diarrhea. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids and contact your doctor if you have any questions.
  • Do not use Diavic if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor you are using Diavic if you are scheduled for surgery requiring anesthesia.
