How to Use

Dosage

Method

Take the medicine by mouth. You can take it with or without food.

Important

Always follow your doctor's instructions for the maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

  • Problems with muscle coordination (ataxia)
  • Double vision
  • Muscle weakness
  • Memory loss
  • Allergic skin reactions (like rash, itching)
  • Restlessness, irritability, aggression, hallucinations, nightmares, psychosis, sleepwalking, or other unusual behavior.
  • Itchy skin, rash, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing (signs of a severe allergic reaction).
  • Changes in blood cell count.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to diazepam, other similar medicines (benzodiazepines), or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have a long-term muscle weakness called myasthenia gravis.
  • Do not use if you have severe breathing problems or stop breathing during sleep (sleep apnea).
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking strong pain medicines (opioids), as using them with Diapam can be dangerous.

  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Diapam, as it can make the medicine's effects much stronger and dangerous.
  • Diapam is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless strictly necessary.
  • Do not drive or operate machines while taking Diapam, as it can make you sleepy and less alert.
  • Do not stop taking Diapam suddenly. Your dose should be gradually reduced as instructed by your doctor to avoid withdrawal symptoms.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. A long-acting. Increases the risk of drug addiction, cognitive disorder and traffic accidents. Increases risk of falls. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 15.1.2024)
