How to Use

Dosage

Always take Diapam exactly as your doctor has told you. The dosage varies and is determined by your doctor.

Method

You can take the tablet with or without food. The tablet can be divided into equal halves. If used for sleep, make sure you can get 7-8 hours of undisturbed sleep.

Important

Your doctor will decide your maximum daily dose based on your condition. For sleep problems, treatment should be less than 4 weeks. For anxiety, it should be no more than 8-12 weeks, including stopping the medicine slowly.

  • Unexpected mental reactions like restlessness, irritability, aggression, delusions, nightmares, hallucinations, psychosis, inappropriate behavior, or sleepwalking.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to diazepam or other benzodiazepines, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis), severe breathing problems, prolonged pauses in breathing during sleep (sleep apnea), or severe liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, are elderly or frail, use strong pain relievers (opioids), have long-term breathing issues, have a history of drug or alcohol abuse, have suicidal thoughts, or suffer from depression.
  • Long-term use can lead to tolerance (medicine works less well) and dependence. To avoid this, treatment should be as short as possible.
  • Stopping Diapam suddenly can make insomnia and anxiety worse. Always reduce the dose slowly as advised by your doctor.

  • You might experience memory loss for a few hours after taking Diapam. Try to get 7-8 hours of undisturbed sleep after taking it to reduce this risk.
  • Diapam can sometimes cause unexpected reactions like restlessness, irritation, aggression, delusions, nightmares, hallucinations, psychosis, inappropriate behavior, or sleepwalking. If this happens, stop treatment and contact your doctor immediately.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Diapam, as it can increase the effects of the medicine and alcohol. Caffeine and tobacco can also reduce the medicine's effect.
  • Diapam can make you drowsy and affect your ability to concentrate. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. A long-acting. Increases the risk of drug addiction, cognitive disorder and traffic accidents. Increases risk of falls. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 15.1.2024)
