How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to take, usually between 0.5 and 9 mg. The dose depends on your weight and health condition, and can be higher for severe illnesses.

Method

Take this medicine by mouth, with or right after food, to avoid upsetting your stomach. Use the special syringe provided to measure your dose and follow your doctor's instructions.

Important

Do not take more medicine than your doctor tells you. The usual maximum is 9 mg per day, but it can be higher if needed for serious conditions.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sad or moody, having trouble sleeping, feeling anxious or confused, seeing or hearing things that aren't there.
  • Feeling sick to your stomach (nausea), throwing up, hiccups, feeling hungrier, stomach discomfort, bloating, heartburn, or stomach ulcers.
  • Gaining weight, swelling in your body from extra fluid, higher blood pressure, weaker bones, easy bruising, thin skin, acne, or increased sweating.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction: Red bumpy rash, trouble breathing, swelling of your face, mouth, lips, or eyelids.
  • Adrenal gland problems: Severe stomach pain, feeling sick, throwing up, diarrhea, extreme muscle weakness and tiredness, very low blood pressure, weight loss, or fever (these could be signs of adrenal gland problems).
  • Serious eye problems: Sudden blurred or distorted vision that lasts for several days.
  • Tendon problems: Pain, stiffness, or swelling in your joints or tendons, or a torn tendon (very rare).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to dexamethasone or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an infection, as this medicine can make it harder for your body to fight infections.
  • This medicine can cause mental health problems, such as feeling depressed or confused. Tell your doctor if you experience any changes in mood or behavior.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as it can be dangerous.
  • Avoid contact with people who have chickenpox, shingles, or measles while taking this medicine.
