How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is between 5 mg and 20 mg. Your doctor will start with a low dose, typically 5 mg, and may slowly increase it by 5 mg each week if needed.

Method

Take Dexfarm tablets by mouth with water, ideally with or right after a meal. Take it at the same time each day relative to meals. Do not take the last dose too late after lunch to avoid trouble sleeping. Tablets can be split if needed.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 20 mg, but it can be up to 40 mg in rare cases.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Loss of appetite, slowed weight gain and weight loss in children with long-term use.
  • Trouble sleeping.
  • Nervousness.
  • Irregular or fast heartbeat, feeling your heart pound.
  • Stomach ache or cramps, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth. These usually happen at the start of treatment and can be lessened by taking the medicine with food.
  • Changes in blood pressure and heart rate (usually an increase).
  • Joint pain.
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness, twitching or involuntary movements, headache, hyperactivity.
  • Abnormal behavior, aggression, agitation, anorexia, anxiety, depression, irritability.
RARE
  • Chest pain (angina).
  • Problems with vision sharpness, blurry vision, dilated pupils.
  • Slowed growth in children with long-term use.
  • Tiredness.
  • Rash, hives.

Important Warnings

  • Do not give Dexfarm if your child is allergic to dexamfetamine, other amphetamines, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not give this medicine if your child has serious heart problems or very high blood pressure.
  • Do not give this medicine if your child has serious mental health problems, such as thoughts of harming themselves or severe depression.
  • Tell your doctor if your child has ever misused alcohol, prescription drugs, or illegal drugs.
  • Do not give this medicine if your child has taken certain antidepressants (MAO inhibitors) in the last 14 days.

  • If your child is having surgery, tell the doctor. They should not take Dexfarm on the day of surgery if certain anesthetics are used.
  • Dexfarm can cause weight loss or slow growth in some children and adolescents.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or blurry vision, which can make activities like riding a bike unsafe.
  • This medicine can cause a positive result on drug tests.
