How to Use

Dosage

The usual recommended dose is between 5 mg and 20 mg daily, with treatment typically starting at a low dose and gradually increasing weekly as needed.

Method

Take the tablets orally with water, preferably with or right after a meal. Take them at the same time each day in relation to meals. Do not take the last dose too late in the day to avoid sleep problems. Tablets can be divided into equal doses.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg, though in rare cases, up to 40 mg per day may be used.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decreased appetite, slowed growth and weight loss in children with long-term use.
  • Trouble sleeping.
  • Feeling nervous.
  • Stomach pain or cramps, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth.
  • Irregular or fast heartbeat, feeling your heart beat strongly.
  • Headache.
  • Dizziness.
  • Aggression, irritability, anxiety, depression.
RARE
  • Seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations), psychosis, suicidal thoughts or behavior.
  • Stroke.
  • Heart attack.
  • Severe allergic reactions causing swelling of the face or throat, or breathing difficulties.
  • Blurred vision, difficulty focusing eyes.
  • Fatigue.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to dexamfetamine sulfate, other amphetamines, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you or your child has or has had heart problems like a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, heart failure, or a congenital heart defect.
  • Do not take if you or your child has very high blood pressure or narrow blood vessels that cause pain in arms and legs.
  • Do not take if you or your child has severe mental health problems, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or thoughts of self-harm.
  • Do not take if you or your child is currently taking or has taken within the last 14 days a medicine for depression called an MAO inhibitor.

  • This medicine may cause a positive result in drug screening tests.
  • Do not take this medicine on the day of surgery if certain anesthetics are used, as it may cause a sudden increase in blood pressure.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, trouble focusing, or blurred vision, which can make driving or operating machinery dangerous.
