How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 0.5–8 mg daily, but your doctor will decide the exact dose for your condition.

Method

Take the tablets by mouth exactly as your doctor has told you.

Important

Your doctor will decide your maximum daily dose; doses above 8 mg may be needed in some cases.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Weakened ability to fight infections.
  • Swelling and redness of the face (Cushing's syndrome).
  • Slowed growth in children.
  • Acne and increased body hair in women.
  • Muscle weakness.
  • Weak bones (osteoporosis) due to calcium loss.
  • Higher blood sugar, which can worsen diabetes or uncover hidden diabetes.
  • Diabetes.
  • Low nitrogen levels in the blood.
RARE
  • Allergic reactions like swelling and rash.
  • Skin test results may be less accurate.
  • Body swelling due to changes in salt levels in the blood.
  • Increased appetite and weight gain.
  • High blood pressure, blood clots, and heart failure.
  • Stomach problems like nausea and stomach ulcers.
  • Thin and fragile skin (bruises easily), and poor wound healing.
  • Mood changes, sleep problems, feeling down (depression), or severe mental problems (psychosis).
  • Eye problems like increased eye pressure, glaucoma, bulging eyes, and cataracts (cloudy lens).
  • Tendon rupture.
  • Increased pressure inside the skull.
  • Bone tissue breakdown.
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis).
  • Irregular or missed periods.
  • Convulsions (seizures).
  • Headache, dizziness, and a general feeling of being unwell.
  • Bone fractures.
  • Muscle disease in arms and legs.
  • Blood clots in blood vessels.
  • Fluid retention and body swelling.
  • Low blood potassium.
  • Heart muscle problems after a recent heart attack.
  • Small round purple spots on the skin, rash, and redness.
  • Bruises.
  • Excessive sweating.
  • Stomach ulcers that can burst and bleed, throat ulcers, and a swollen belly.
  • Vision problems, loss of vision, or blurred vision.
  • Problems with how the body handles carbohydrates.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to dexamethasone or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have a fungal infection that affects your whole body.
  • Always tell your doctor if you have diabetes, tuberculosis, weak bones, mental health issues, stomach ulcers, high blood pressure, heart problems, kidney problems, eye diseases, or an infection.
  • Tell your doctor or nurse if you are going to get a vaccine.
  • Do not use if you have a head injury or have had a stroke.

  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy.
  • If you have a sugar intolerance (like lactose intolerance), talk to your doctor.
