How to Use

Dosage

For inflammation, typically 1-4 mg daily for the first week, then 1-2 mg daily. Your doctor will adjust your dose.

Method

Take exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you. You can divide the tablet into two equal doses.

Important

Always follow your doctor's instructions for the maximum daily dose; do not change your dose or stop treatment without consulting them.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Reduced ability to fight off infections
  • Swelling and redness in the face (Cushing's syndrome)
  • Slowed growth in children
  • Acne and more body hair (in women)
  • Muscle weakness
  • Weakening of bones due to calcium loss (osteoporosis)
  • Reduced sugar tolerance, which may worsen existing diabetes or reveal hidden diabetes
  • Low nitrogen levels in the blood
RARE
  • Allergic reactions, such as swelling, rash, and eczema
  • Body swelling due to salt imbalance in the blood (e.g., too much sodium or too little potassium or calcium)
  • Increased appetite and weight gain
  • High blood pressure, blood clots, and heart failure
  • Digestive problems such as nausea, stomach ulcers (which may bleed), inflammation of the pancreas, throat ulcers, and swollen abdomen
  • Thin and fragile skin (easily bruised), poor wound healing, skin rash, and redness
  • Mood changes and trouble sleeping
  • Eye problems such as glaucoma (high eye pressure), bulging eyes, cataracts, vision disturbances, vision loss, or blurred vision
  • Tendon rupture
  • Increased pressure inside the skull
  • Breakdown of bone tissue
  • Irregular or absent menstrual periods
  • Convulsions/Seizures
  • Headache, dizziness, and a general feeling of being unwell
  • Bone fractures
  • Muscle disease in arms and legs
  • Blockage of blood vessels (blood clots)
  • Body swelling due to fluid retention
  • Low potassium levels in the blood
  • Heart muscle problems after a recent heart attack

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to dexamethasone or any other ingredient, or if you have a fungal infection that affects your whole body.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, tuberculosis, weak bones (osteoporosis), mental health issues, stomach ulcers, high blood pressure, migraine, heart failure, recent heart attack, kidney problems, eye diseases, or an infection.
  • If you are getting a vaccination, tell the person giving the vaccine that you are taking this medicine.
  • Contact your doctor if you get a fever or feel stressed, as your dose may need to be changed.
  • This medicine may affect growth in children.

  • Do not take this medicine if you have a head injury or have had a stroke.
  • Treatment with this medicine should be stopped gradually.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience muscle cramps, muscle weakness, confusion, vision loss or blurred vision, or shortness of breath, especially if you have a blood cancer, as these could be signs of tumor lysis syndrome.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other eye problems.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, think you might be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • This medicine may affect your ability to drive or use machines that require full attention.
