How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 4 mg capsule once a day. If you have kidney or liver issues, or bad side effects, your doctor might lower your dose to one 2 mg capsule once a day.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not chew it.

The maximum daily dose is typically one 4 mg capsule. Your doctor might prescribe one 2 mg capsule if you have kidney or liver problems or significant side effects.

Possible Side Effects

  • Dry mouth.

  • Sinus infection.
  • Dizziness, feeling sleepy, headache.
  • Dry eyes, blurry vision.
  • Stomach problems (indigestion), constipation, stomach pain, gas.
  • Pain or difficulty when urinating.
  • Feeling tired.
  • Swelling in the body due to fluid build-up (e.g., in ankles).
  • Diarrhea.
RARE
  • Allergic reactions.
  • Nervousness.
  • Tingling in fingers and toes.
  • Vertigo (a spinning sensation).
  • Heart palpitations, heart failure, irregular heartbeat.
  • Inability to completely empty the bladder.
  • Chest pain.
  • Memory problems.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to tolterodine or any other ingredient in it.
  • Do not use if you cannot urinate at all (urinary retention).
  • Do not use if you have uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma (high eye pressure not managed by treatment).
  • Do not use if you have myasthenia gravis (severe muscle weakness).
  • Do not use if you have severe ulcerative colitis (a serious inflammation in your large intestine).

  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have a nerve problem that affects your blood pressure, bowel function, or sexual function.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have a hiatus hernia (where a part of your stomach pushes up into your chest).
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you sometimes have slow bowel movements or severe constipation.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have a heart condition, such as an abnormal ECG, slow heart rate, or a history of heart problems like weak heart muscle, reduced blood flow to the heart, irregular heartbeat, or heart failure.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have abnormally low levels of potassium, calcium, or magnesium in your blood.
  • Get urgent medical help if you get swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, trouble swallowing, hives, or trouble breathing. These could be signs of a severe allergic reaction (angioedema).
  • See a doctor if you get other signs of an allergic reaction like itching, skin rash, or breathing problems.
  • Contact your doctor right away or go to an emergency room if you have chest pain, trouble breathing, feel very tired (even at rest), have trouble breathing at night, or swollen legs. These might be signs of heart failure.
