This medicine helps your body control how much water it keeps, treating conditions like too much thirst, bedwetting, and needing to pee often at night.
For diabetes insipidus, adults and children typically take 1-2 tablets (60 micrograms) under the tongue three times a day. For bedwetting in children, it's usually 1-2 tablets (120 micrograms) under the tongue at night. For night-time urination in adults, it's usually 1 tablet (60 micrograms) under the tongue at night. Your doctor will tell you your exact dose.
Place the tablet under your tongue. It will dissolve there without needing water. Always take it at the same time each day, relative to meals. For bedwetting and night-time urination, limit how much you drink for 1 hour before and 8 hours after taking the medicine. Drink only enough to quench your thirst.
Taking too much of this medicine can cause too much fluid to build up in your body and low sodium in your blood, which can be dangerous. Always follow your doctor's instructions carefully.
Avoid use in older adults. Risk of fluid retention and hyponatraemia. Treatment of ADH deficiency can be started under specialist supervision. (updated 6.11.2023)
