How to Use

Dosage

For adults and children with diabetes insipidus, typically 1-2 tablets (60 micrograms each) under the tongue three times a day. For nocturnal enuresis, typically 1-2 tablets (120 micrograms each) under the tongue at night. For nocturia, typically 1 tablet (60 micrograms) under the tongue at night.

Method

Place the tablet under your tongue, where it will dissolve by itself without water.

Important

Your doctor will determine your exact daily dose; do not take more than prescribed, as too much medicine can lead to serious fluid problems in your body.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to desmopressin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have extreme thirst, heart problems, severe kidney problems, or very low sodium in your blood.
  • You must be able to follow fluid restrictions when taking this medicine, especially for bedwetting or frequent nighttime urination.
  • Do not take if you are over 65 years old and have nocturia, or if your child is under 5 years old and has bedwetting.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid or adrenal gland problems, or if you get a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea while taking this medicine.

  • If you get a headache, feel sick, vomit, gain weight, feel dizzy or confused, or have seizures, stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor immediately. These could be signs of too much fluid or low salt in your blood.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Risk of fluid retention and hyponatraemia. Treatment of ADH deficiency can be started under specialist supervision. (updated 6.11.2023)
