How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much to take. Typically, for adults and children, it's 60 to 120 micrograms once a day at bedtime, or three times a day for diabetes insipidus.

Method

Place the tablet under your tongue. It will dissolve there without water.

Important

Do not take more than 240 micrograms in a single day.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to desmopressin or any other ingredients.
  • If you are taking this for bedwetting or frequent nighttime urination, drink as little as possible 1 hour before and up to 8 hours after taking the tablet. Too much fluid can cause serious problems.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney or heart problems, very low sodium levels in your blood, or drink unusually large amounts of fluid.
  • Stop taking the medicine and see a doctor right away if you get a very bad headache, nausea, vomiting, unexplained weight gain, confusion, or seizures. These could be signs of too much fluid in your body.
  • Stop taking the medicine and see a doctor right away if you have signs of a serious allergic reaction, like a rash, itching, fever, or swelling of your face, tongue, or throat that makes it hard to breathe or swallow.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Risk of fluid retention and hyponatraemia. Treatment of ADH deficiency can be started under specialist supervision. (updated 6.11.2023)
