Dermovat is a strong corticosteroid medicine that reduces skin redness, swelling, and irritation, used for stubborn skin conditions like psoriasis when milder medicines haven't worked.

How to Use

Dosage

Apply Dermovat 1-2 times a day. As your skin gets better, your doctor may tell you to use it less often or switch to a milder cream.

Method

Apply a thin layer and gently rub it into the affected skin. Use only enough to cover the whole area. Wash your hands after applying, unless your hands are being treated. If you use moisturizer, let Dermovat soak in first.

Important

Do not use Dermovat daily for longer than three weeks at a time.

Possible Side Effects

  • Itchy skin
  • Local skin burning or pain
RARE
  • Thinning of the skin, which can cause stretch marks
  • Visible small blood vessels under the skin
  • Weight gain, moon-shaped face, or obesity
  • Wrinkled or dry skin
  • Changes in skin color
  • Increased body hair growth, hair loss, or slowed hair growth
  • Allergic reaction where the cream was applied, worsening of rash, or skin irritation/redness
  • Rash or hives
  • Pustular psoriasis (psoriasis with fluid-filled blisters)
  • Skin infection or acne
  • (In children) Slowed weight gain or growth
  • Lower levels of cortisol hormone in the blood
  • Increased sugar levels in blood or urine
  • High blood pressure
  • Cloudy eye lens (cataracts) or increased pressure inside the eye (glaucoma)
  • Vision problems due to retina issues
  • Weakened bones (osteoporosis)
  • Blurred vision

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to clobetasol or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use on infected skin unless your doctor has also given you antibiotics for the infection.
  • Do not use for acne, rosacea (unusual redness of the face), rashes around the mouth, or itchy skin that is not inflamed.
  • Do not use on skin around the anus or genitals.
  • Do not use for children under one year old.

  • Be very careful when using this medicine on your face as it can make your skin thinner. Do not get it in your eyes; if you do, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
  • Only use this medicine for as long as your doctor tells you. If your skin problem does not improve in 2-3 weeks, talk to your doctor.
  • Avoid smoking and open flames while using this medicine. Clothing or bandages that have touched the medicine can catch fire more easily.
  • Contact a doctor if your skin becomes infected, or if you experience blurred vision or other vision problems.
  • If you are breastfeeding and using Dermovat, do not apply it to the breast area to prevent your baby from accidentally getting it in their mouth.
  • Tell your doctor if you have new or worsening bone pain, or if you are using other steroid medicines or medicines that affect your immune system, as this can lead to serious infections.
