How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor or nurse will decide the right dose for you, which typically ranges from 4 mg to 120 mg, depending on what is being treated.

Method

This medicine is given by a doctor or nurse as an injection into a joint, skin, or muscle, or as an enema into the rectum.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum dose you should receive for your specific condition and how often you should receive it.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • More infections, infections getting worse, or an increase in white blood cells.
  • Allergic reactions, which can sometimes be severe.
  • Weight gain, round face (like Cushing's syndrome), changes in appetite, nausea, vomiting, feeling sleepy, headache, fever, joint pain, muscle pain, weight loss, or low blood pressure (withdrawal symptoms).
  • Changes in body chemicals (like too much acid or fluid retention), high blood sugar, or increased appetite.
  • Mood swings (feeling sad or overly happy), confusion, anxiety, trouble sleeping, irritability, memory problems, dizziness, seizures, or increased pressure in the head.
  • Blurred vision, cataracts, high eye pressure, bulging eyes, or blindness.
  • Heart problems (like heart failure), high or low blood pressure, blood clots (in lungs or elsewhere), or warm or red skin.
  • Stomach ulcers (which may bleed or burst), heartburn, stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, hiccups, liver damage, or hepatitis.
  • Skin swelling (angioedema), increased hair growth, small broken blood vessels, bruising, red skin, increased sweating, stretch marks, rash, itching, hives, acne, or changes in skin color.
  • Muscle weakness, muscle pain, muscle wasting, bone thinning (osteoporosis), bone death, broken bones, joint problems due to nerve issues, joint pain, slow growth in children, pain at the injection site, spinal fractures, or tendon tears.
  • Slow wound healing, swelling, tiredness, feeling unwell, or irregular periods.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to methylprednisolone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have a fungal infection or have recently received a live vaccine.
  • This medicine can weaken your immune system, making you more likely to get infections or making existing ones worse. Tell your doctor if you have any signs of infection.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, heart problems, stomach ulcers, or bone weakness (osteoporosis).
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience muscle weakness, pain, cramps, or stiffness.

  • Contact your doctor if you notice blurred vision or other changes in your sight.
  • For children, long-term use of this medicine can slow down growth.
  • If you are taking blood thinners, your doctor may need to adjust your dose and check your blood often.
