How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the dose can range from 6 to 90 mg per day. For children, the doctor will decide the dose based on their weight and the severity of the illness.

Method

Take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you have trouble swallowing the 30 mg tablet whole, you can break it along the score line. For small children, tablets can be crushed and mixed with food like applesauce.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 90 mg. For children, the maximum dose depends on their weight, up to 1.5 mg/kg per day.

  • Joint pain from bone tissue dying due to poor blood flow
  • Increased chance of getting infections
  • Problems with adrenal glands (symptoms like headache, nausea, dizziness, loss of appetite, weakness, mood changes, drowsiness, unusual stress reaction)
  • Too much salt or too little potassium in the body (seen in blood tests)
  • Feeling down or depressed
  • Headache
  • Stomach problems or indigestion
  • Stretch marks on the skin
  • Acne
  • Weakening of bones (osteoporosis)
  • Fluid buildup in the body (swelling)
  • Diabetes

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to deflazacort or any other ingredient in the medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a stomach ulcer, an active bacterial or viral infection (like herpes simplex eye disease, shingles, or chickenpox), or systemic fungal infections.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are about to get vaccinated or have recently been vaccinated.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, especially after long-term use, as it can cause withdrawal symptoms like fever, body aches, and joint pain.
  • Long-term use of this medicine in children may affect their growth and development.

  • If you feel dizzy while taking this medicine, do not drive or use any tools or machines.
  • This medicine contains lactose. If you have been told by your doctor that you cannot tolerate some sugars, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, blood clots, stomach or gut problems, diabetes, mood swings, glaucoma, thyroid problems, liver disease, or blurred vision, as your dose may need to be adjusted or you may need closer monitoring.
  • The dose may need to be increased during stressful times like infections, injuries, or surgery.
  • Long-term treatment and high doses can affect your salt and water balance, so your doctor should check your sodium and potassium levels.
