How to Use

Dosage

For chronic phase CML, adults usually start with 100 mg once daily. For accelerated phase or blast crisis CML, or Ph+ ALL, adults usually start with 140 mg once daily. Children's dosage is based on body weight: 10-20 kg: 40 mg; 20-30 kg: 60 mg; 30-45 kg: 70 mg; 45 kg and over: 100 mg. This medicine is not recommended for children under 1 year of age.

Method

Take the tablets whole at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not crush, split, or chew them. If tablets break, other people should wear protective gloves when handling them.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose based on your response to treatment.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Infections (bacterial, viral, fungal)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
  • Rash, fever, swelling in face, hands, and feet, headache, feeling tired or weak, bleeding
  • Muscle pain (during or after treatment), stomach pain (abdominal pain)
  • Low platelet count, low white blood cell count (neutropenia), anemia, fluid around the lungs
  • Pneumonia, herpes virus infection (including CMV), upper respiratory infection, severe blood or tissue infection (rarely fatal)
  • Palpitations, irregular heartbeat, narrowing heart failure, weakened heart muscle, high blood pressure, high blood pressure in the lungs, cough
  • Appetite changes, taste changes, bloated stomach, colon inflammation, constipation, heartburn, mouth sores, weight gain, weight loss, stomach inflammation
  • Tingling, itching, dry skin, acne, skin inflammation, ringing in ears, hair loss, excessive sweating, vision problems (blurred vision, reduced vision), dry eyes, bleeding under skin, depression, insomnia, flushing, dizziness, bruises, loss of appetite, sleepiness, general swelling
  • Joint pain, muscle weakness, chest pain, pain in hands and feet, chills, muscle and joint stiffness, muscle cramps
  • Fluid around the heart, fluid in the lungs, irregular heartbeat, febrile neutropenia, gastrointestinal bleeding, high uric acid in the blood
RARE
  • Heart attack (possibly fatal), inflammation of the sac around the heart, irregular heartbeat, chest pain due to poor blood supply to the heart (angina), low blood pressure, narrowed airways causing breathing difficulties, asthma, high blood pressure in lung arteries
  • Pancreatitis, stomach ulcer, esophagus inflammation, swollen stomach, anal fissure, difficulty swallowing, gallbladder inflammation, bile duct blockage, acid reflux
  • Allergic reaction (including tender, red skin lumps), anxiety, confusion, mood swings, decreased libido, fainting, tremors, red or painful eye inflammation, skin disease with painful red patches and fever (neutrophilic dermatosis), hearing loss, light sensitivity, impaired vision, increased tear production, pigment disorder, inflammation of subcutaneous fat, skin ulcer, blistering, nail disorder, hair disorder, hand-foot syndrome, kidney failure, frequent urination, breast enlargement in men, menstrual disorders, general weakness and discomfort, underactive thyroid, loss of balance when walking, bone death (due to reduced blood supply), arthritis, skin swelling anywhere on the body
  • Vein inflammation (causing redness, tenderness, swelling), tendon inflammation
  • Memory loss
  • Abnormal blood test results and possible kidney problems from tumor breakdown (tumor lysis syndrome); low blood albumin, low lymphocyte count, high blood cholesterol, swollen lymph nodes, brain bleeding, irregular heart electrical activity, enlarged heart, liver inflammation, protein in urine, increased levels of creatine kinase, troponin, and gamma-glutamyltransferase; milky fluid around the lungs (chylothorax)
RARE
  • Enlarged upper heart chamber, heart muscle inflammation, acute cardiac syndrome (blockage of blood supply to the heart), cardiac arrest, coronary artery disease, inflammation of tissues covering heart and lungs, blood clots in vessels, blood clots in lungs
  • Reduced absorption of important nutrients (like protein) from the digestive tract, intestinal blockage, anal fistula (abnormal opening from anus to skin), kidney problems, diabetes
  • Seizures, optic nerve inflammation (can cause complete or partial vision loss), blue-violet skin discoloration, overactive thyroid, thyroid inflammation, ataxia (muscle coordination disorder), difficulty walking, miscarriage, skin blood vessel inflammation, skin fibrosis
  • Stroke, temporary neurological events (TIA), facial paralysis, dementia
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Slowed bone formation in growth plates (epiphyses); slowed or delayed growth

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to dasatinib or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you take medicines that thin your blood or prevent blood clots.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had liver or heart disease.
  • Contact your doctor if you get breathing problems, chest pain, or a cough. This could be a sign of fluid in your lungs.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had hepatitis B, as Dasatinib Stada can reactivate it.

  • Contact your doctor if you bruise easily, bleed, have fever, feel tired or confused, as this can be a sign of blood vessel damage.
  • Do not take with certain antifungal, antibiotic, antiviral, anti-seizure, anti-tuberculosis, stomach acid reducing medicines, or St. John's wort.
  • Do not take antacids (stomach acid neutralizers) 2 hours before or 2 hours after Dasatinib Stada.
  • Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking Dasatinib Stada.
  • If you are pregnant or think you might be, tell your doctor right away. This medicine should not be used during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary.
  • If you are breastfeeding, tell your doctor. You must stop breastfeeding while taking Dasatinib Stada.
  • Be careful when driving or operating machines if you experience dizziness or blurred vision.
