Dasatinib Krka is a medicine for treating certain types of blood cancer (leukemia) in adults and children over one year old by stopping cancer cells from growing.

How to Use

Dosage

Adults with chronic leukemia usually take 100 mg once a day. For more serious types of leukemia, adults usually take 140 mg once a day. A child's dose depends on their body weight, typically between 40 mg and 100 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not crush, divide, or chew them.

Important

Your doctor will decide your maximum daily dose. It might be changed based on how well the treatment works for you.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Infections (caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea, upset stomach, feeling sick (nausea, vomiting)
  • Rash, fever, swelling in your face, hands, and feet, headache, feeling tired or weak, bleeding
  • Muscle pain (during or after treatment), stomach pain (belly pain)
  • Low number of platelets, low number of white blood cells (neutropenia), anemia (low red blood cell count), fluid around the lungs
  • Lung infection (pneumonia), herpes virus infection (including CMV), upper airway infection, severe blood or tissue infection (in rare cases, this can be deadly)
  • Pounding heart (palpitations), irregular heartbeats, heart failure (heart unable to pump enough blood), weak heart muscle, high blood pressure, high blood pressure in lung blood vessels, cough
  • Changes in appetite, changes in taste, bloated or swollen stomach, large bowel inflammation, constipation, heartburn, mouth sores, weight gain, weight loss, stomach lining inflammation (gastritis)
  • Tingling skin, itching, dry skin, acne, skin inflammation, constant ringing in ears, hair loss, heavy sweating, vision problems (blurry or worse vision), dry eyes, bleeding under the skin, feeling down (depression), trouble sleeping, flushing, dizziness, bruises, loss of appetite, feeling sleepy, general swelling
  • Joint pain, muscle weakness, chest pain, pain in hands and feet, chills, stiff muscles and joints, muscle cramps
  • Fluid around the heart, fluid in the lungs, irregular heartbeats, fever with low white blood cells (febrile neutropenia), bleeding in the digestive tract, high uric acid levels in the blood
RARE
  • Heart attack (can sometimes be deadly), inflammation of the sac around the heart, irregular heartbeats, chest pain from not enough blood flow to the heart (angina), low blood pressure, tightened airways (can cause breathing problems), asthma, high blood pressure in lung arteries, enlarged right heart chamber, heart muscle inflammation, various heart blood flow problems (coronary artery events), cardiac arrest (heart stops), coronary artery disease, inflammation of heart and lung lining, blood clots, lung blood clots
  • Pancreas inflammation, stomach ulcer, food pipe inflammation, swollen belly, crack in the skin around the anus, trouble swallowing, gallbladder inflammation, blocked bile ducts, acid reflux (stomach acid and contents come back up into the food pipe), loss of important nutrients (like protein) from the digestive system, bowel blockage, anal fistula (abnormal opening near the anus), kidney problems, diabetes
  • Allergic reaction (including tender, red skin bumps (erythema nodosum)), anxiety, confusion, mood swings, lower sex drive, fainting, shaking, red or painful eye infection, skin disease with tender, red, clear patches, sudden fever and increased white blood cells (neutrophilic dermatosis), hearing loss, sensitivity to light, worse vision, more tears, changes in skin color, inflammation of fat under the skin, skin ulcer, blistering skin, nail problems, hair problems, hand-foot syndrome, kidney problems, frequent urination, breast enlargement in men, period problems, general weakness and discomfort, underactive thyroid, balance problems when walking, bone death (bone loss and death due to poor blood supply to bones), joint inflammation (arthritis), skin swelling anywhere on the body, seizures, optic nerve inflammation (can cause full or partial vision loss), blue-purple skin (livedo reticularis), overactive thyroid, thyroid inflammation, ataxia (problems with muscle coordination), trouble walking, miscarriage, skin blood vessel inflammation, hardened skin
  • Vein inflammation (can cause redness, tenderness, swelling), tendon inflammation
  • Memory loss, stroke, nerve problems from a temporary lack of blood flow (transient ischemic attack), facial nerve paralysis, dementia
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Slowed bone formation at the ends of bones (epiphyses), slowed or delayed growth
  • Abnormal blood test results and possible kidney problems from breaking down tumor waste (tumor lysis syndrome); low protein (albumin) in blood; low white blood cells called lymphocytes; high cholesterol in blood; swollen lymph nodes; bleeding in the brain; irregular electrical activity of the heart; enlarged heart muscle; liver inflammation; protein in urine; high levels of creatine kinase (an enzyme in heart, brain, and muscles); high levels of troponin (an enzyme in heart and muscles); high levels of gamma-glutamyl transferase (an enzyme in the liver); milky fluid around the lungs (chylothorax)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Dasatinib Krka if you are allergic to dasatinib or any of its ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you take blood thinners or medicines that stop blood clots.
  • Inform your doctor if you have or have had liver or heart disease.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you have trouble breathing, chest pain, or a cough. This could mean fluid is building up in your lungs.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had Hepatitis B, as this medicine can make it active again.

  • See your doctor if you get bruising, bleeding, fever, feel very tired, or confused while taking this medicine. These could be signs of damage to your blood vessels.
  • This medicine is not for children under 1 year old.
  • Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking Dasatinib Krka.
  • Do not take antacids (medicines for stomach acid) 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking Dasatinib Krka.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, tell your doctor. You must stop breastfeeding while on this medicine.
  • Be careful when driving or using machines if you feel dizzy or have blurry vision.
  • Seek medical help right away if you notice blood in your vomit, stool, or urine, or if your stool is black.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have fever, a sore mouth or throat, and blistering or peeling skin or mucous membranes.
