How to Use

Dosage

The usual adult dose is 800 mg (two 400 mg tablets or one 800 mg tablet) once a day, always with a 150 mg dose of cobicistat or a 100 mg dose of ritonavir.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with food and a liquid, such as water or milk. Take at the same time with cobicistat or ritonavir and other HIV medicines as prescribed by your doctor.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 800 mg once daily or 600 mg twice daily (total 1200 mg per day), as directed by your doctor.

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Stomach pain or bloating
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Numbness, tingling, or pain in hands and feet
  • Skin rash
  • Diabetes (high blood sugar)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (DRESS syndrome, with severe rash, fever, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, and organ effects)
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Chest pain, slow or fast heartbeat, or changes in heart rhythm (ECG)
  • Kidney problems (e.g., kidney failure, kidney stones, difficulty or frequent urination)
  • Muscle and bone problems (e.g., muscle pain, cramps, weakness, thinning bones, or stiff joints)
  • High blood pressure
  • Fever, swelling in legs (due to fluid retention), or general feeling of unwellness
  • Erectile dysfunction or breast enlargement in men
  • Mood changes (e.g., depression, anxiety), sleep disorders, abnormal dreams, or decreased sex drive
  • Vision problems
  • Confusion or disorientation

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Darunavir Accord if you are allergic to darunavir, any other ingredient in this medicine, or to cobicistat or ritonavir.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure about how severe your liver disease is; further tests may be needed.
  • Darunavir Accord does not cure HIV infection. You can still transmit HIV to others even while taking this medicine.
  • People taking Darunavir Accord may develop a rash. Sometimes the rash can become severe or life-threatening. Contact your doctor if you develop a rash.
  • Liver problems, sometimes severe, have been reported. Tell your doctor if you notice symptoms like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or pain on the right side under your ribs.

  • Do not stop taking Darunavir Accord without talking to your doctor first. Your HIV medication can improve your condition, so do not stop using it even if you feel better.
