How to Use

Dosage

For adults who have taken HIV medicine before: 600 mg darunavir twice daily with 100 mg ritonavir, OR 800 mg darunavir once daily with 100 mg ritonavir. The dosage for children depends on their weight and will be decided by the doctor.

Method

Always take Darunavir Accord with food and ritonavir. Swallow the tablets whole with a liquid, such as water or milk.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 1200 mg darunavir (600 mg twice daily).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhoea
  • Vomiting, nausea, stomach pain or bloating, indigestion, flatulence
  • Headache, fatigue, dizziness, drowsiness
  • Numbness or tingling in hands or feet, pain, weakness, difficulty sleeping
RARE
  • Rash, itching, severe allergic reactions (like DRESS syndrome)
  • Liver problems (yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, pain under the right ribs)
  • Diabetes (high blood sugar), pancreas inflammation
  • Chest pain, heart changes (ECG), fast or slow heartbeat, heart attack, palpitations
  • Numbness, tingling, memory/balance problems, confusion, anxiety, depression, sleep issues (insomnia, abnormal dreams), low sex drive, fainting, seizures, taste changes
  • Breathing difficulties, cough, nosebleed, throat irritation, runny nose
  • Mouth or stomach inflammation, heartburn, dry mouth, constipation, burping, mouth ulcers, vomiting blood, lip inflammation/dryness, coated tongue
  • Kidney problems (failure, stones, difficulty/frequent urinating), darunavir crystals in kidneys
  • Hives, skin swelling (lips/eyes), eczema, sweating (heavy, night), hair loss, acne, flaky/dry skin, nail discoloration, skin lesions
  • Muscle pain, cramps, weakness, limb pain, bone weakening (osteoporosis), joint stiffness or pain
  • Underactive thyroid, high blood pressure, fever, fluid retention (swelling), general unwellness, irritability, pain, infection symptoms, herpes, erectile dysfunction, breast enlargement
  • Vision disturbances, chills, feeling abnormal

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to darunavir, ritonavir, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver disease, as you may need further tests.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, as Darunavir Accord has many drug interactions.
  • Do not use Darunavir Accord with St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum).
  • Darunavir Accord does not cure HIV infection. You must continue regular contact with your doctor.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you develop a rash, which could be serious.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of liver disease (such as hepatitis B or C) or diabetes.
  • Tell your doctor if you have hemophilia (a bleeding disorder), as this medicine may increase the risk of bleeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to sulfonamides.
  • Tell your doctor if you have muscle or bone problems, such as joint stiffness or pain.
  • Do not drive or use machines if this medicine makes you feel dizzy.
  • Do not stop taking your medicine without talking to your doctor, even if you feel better.
  • These tablets are not suitable for children under 3 years old or weighing less than 15 kg.
  • Darunavir Accord 600 mg contains lactose, propylene glycol, and sunset yellow, which may cause symptoms in sensitive individuals.
