How to Use

Dosage

For skin infections, 4 mg per kg of body weight once daily; for heart or blood infections, 6 mg per kg of body weight once daily.

Method

The medicine is given directly into a vein as an infusion over about 30 minutes or as an injection over about 2 minutes.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 4 mg/kg for skin infections and 6 mg/kg for heart or blood infections, given once daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fungal infections, such as thrush.
  • Urinary tract infections.
  • Decrease in red blood cells (anemia).
  • Dizziness, anxiety, difficulty sleeping.
  • Headache.
  • Fever, weakness.
  • High or low blood pressure.
  • Constipation, abdominal pain.
  • Diarrhea, nausea or vomiting.
  • Flatulence.
  • Abdominal swelling or bloating.
  • Rashes or itching.
  • Pain, itching, or redness at the injection site.
  • Pain in hands/arms or legs.
  • Higher than normal liver enzyme levels or creatine phosphokinase (CPK) values in blood tests.
RARE
  • Blood disorders (e.g., increased platelets, increased white blood cell types).
  • Decreased appetite.
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet, changes in taste.
  • Tremors.
  • Changes in heart rhythm, flushing.
  • Indigestion (dyspepsia), tongue inflammation.
  • Itchy skin rash.
  • Muscle pain, cramps or weakness, muscle inflammation (myositis), joint pain.
  • Kidney problems.
  • Vaginal inflammation or irritation.
  • General pain or weakness, fatigue.
  • Increased blood sugar, serum creatinine, myoglobin, or lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels in blood tests, prolonged blood clotting time, or electrolyte imbalances.
  • Itchy eyes.
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice).
  • Prolonged prothrombin time (blood clotting time).
  • Colitis associated with antibiotic use (severe or prolonged diarrhea with blood/mucus, abdominal pain, fever).
  • Increased bruising.
  • Bleeding gums.
  • Nosebleeds.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Daptomycin Reddy if you are allergic to daptomycin, sodium hydroxide, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had kidney problems, as your dose may need to be changed.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience muscle tenderness, pain, or weakness. Your doctor may need to do blood tests.
  • Inform your doctor if you have ever had a severe skin rash, peeling skin, blisters, mouth sores, or serious kidney problems after using daptomycin.
  • If you are very overweight, your doctor will watch you closely for side effects, as the medicine might stay in your blood longer.

  • Get immediate medical help if you have signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as wheezing, trouble breathing, swelling of the face, neck or throat, rash, hives, or fever.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you develop severe skin conditions with symptoms like fever, red raised or fluid-filled spots, or blisters/sores in your mouth or genital area.
  • Tell your doctor if you get new symptoms of severe kidney problems, such as fever and rash.
  • Tell your doctor if you have unusual tingling or numbness in your hands and feet, loss of sensation, or trouble moving.
  • Report diarrhea, especially if it has blood or mucus, or if it becomes severe or lasts a long time.
  • Tell your doctor if you have fever, worsening fever, cough, or trouble breathing, as these could be signs of a rare but serious lung condition.
  • Daptomycin Reddy may affect blood clotting tests, so tell your doctor you are taking this medicine before any blood tests.
  • Daptomycin Reddy should not be given to children under 1 year old.
  • Do not breastfeed while taking Daptomycin Reddy, as the medicine can pass into breast milk and affect the baby.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially cholesterol-lowering drugs (statins or fibrates) or ciclosporin, as combining them with Daptomycin Reddy can increase the risk of muscle problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking NSAIDs or COX-2 inhibitors (like celecoxib), as they can affect how Daptomycin Reddy works on your kidneys.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking blood thinners (like warfarin), as your doctor may need to monitor your blood clotting time.
