How to Use

Dosage

The dose depends on your weight and type of infection; it's usually 4 mg per kilogram once daily for skin infections, or 6 mg per kilogram once daily for heart or bloodstream infections.

Method

The medicine is given directly into a vein as an infusion over about 30 minutes, or as an injection over about 2 minutes.

Important

This medicine is given once daily as prescribed by your doctor and the dose should not be exceeded.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fungal infections, such as thrush
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Dizziness, anxiety, trouble sleeping
  • Headache
  • Fever, weakness
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Constipation, stomach pain
  • Diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting
  • Gas (flatulence)
  • Abdominal swelling or bloating
  • Rashes or itching
  • Pain, itching, or redness at the injection site
  • Pain in hands, arms, or legs
  • Changes in blood tests (e.g., higher liver enzymes or CPK levels)
RARE
  • Changes in blood cells (e.g., more platelets, which help clotting, or certain white blood cell types)
  • Decreased appetite
  • Tingling or numbness in hands/feet, changes in taste
  • Shaking (tremor)
  • Changes in heart rhythm, flushing
  • Indigestion, tongue inflammation
  • Itchy skin rash
  • Muscle pain, cramps, or weakness, muscle inflammation (myositis), joint pain
  • Kidney problems
  • Vaginal inflammation or irritation
  • General pain or weakness, tiredness
  • Changes in blood tests (e.g., higher blood sugar, creatinine, myoglobin, or LDH levels; prolonged blood clotting time; electrolyte imbalance)
  • Itchy eyes
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Prolonged prothrombin time (a blood clotting test)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Daptomycin Reddy if you are allergic to daptomycin or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had kidney problems, as your dose may need to be changed.
  • Report any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness to your doctor right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of severe skin rashes, peeling, blisters, mouth sores, or serious kidney issues after using this medicine.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you have signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as wheezing, trouble breathing, swelling of your face, neck or throat, rash, hives, or fever.

  • Inform your doctor if you experience unusual tingling, numbness, or difficulty moving your hands or feet.
  • Report severe or long-lasting diarrhea to your doctor, especially if it contains blood or mucus.
  • Tell your doctor if you have fever, a cough, or trouble breathing, as these can be signs of a rare lung condition.
  • This medicine can affect blood tests that check how your blood clots; make sure your doctor knows you are taking it.
  • Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially cholesterol-lowering drugs (statins, fibrates), cyclosporine, NSAIDs, or blood thinners.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy. Do not breastfeed while on this treatment.
  • Daptomycin Reddy is not for children under 1 year of age.
  • If you are very overweight, you might be monitored more closely for side effects.
