How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually receive 4 mg per kilogram of body weight once daily for skin infections, or 6 mg per kilogram once daily for bloodstream or heart infections.

Method

The medicine is given directly into a vein. For adults, it is given as an infusion over about 30 minutes or as an injection over about 2 minutes. For children and adolescents, it is always given as an infusion over 30-60 minutes.

Important

Your doctor will decide your daily dose based on your weight and the type of infection; it is given once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fungal infections, such as thrush
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Reduced red blood cells (anemia)
  • Dizziness, anxiety, trouble sleeping
  • Headache
  • Fever, weakness (asthenia)
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Constipation, abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea, nausea or vomiting
  • Flatulence
  • Abdominal swelling or bloating
  • Rashes or itching
  • Pain, itching, or redness at the injection site
  • Pain in arms or legs
  • Higher levels of liver enzymes or creatine phosphokinase (CPK) in blood tests
RARE
  • Blood disorders (e.g., increased platelets or white blood cells)
  • Decreased appetite
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet, altered taste
  • Tremors
  • Changes in heart rhythm, flushing
  • Indigestion (dyspepsia), tongue inflammation
  • Itchy skin rash
  • Muscle pain, cramps or weakness, muscle inflammation (myositis), joint pain
  • Kidney disorders
  • Vaginal inflammation or irritation
  • General pain or weakness, fatigue
  • High blood sugar, creatinine, myoglobin, or LDH in blood tests; prolonged blood clotting time; electrolyte imbalances
  • Itchy eyes
  • Yellowing of skin and whites of eyes (jaundice)
  • Prolonged prothrombin time (blood clotting time)
  • Antibiotic-related colitis, including severe or prolonged diarrhea with blood or mucus, stomach pain, or fever
  • Easy bruising, bleeding gums, or nosebleeds

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to daptomycin or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, as your dose might need to be adjusted.
  • Report any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness to your doctor immediately.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience severe allergic reactions like wheezing, trouble breathing, swelling of your face/neck/throat, rash, hives, or fever.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you develop severe skin reactions, including fever, red raised or fluid-filled spots, blisters, or sores in your mouth or genitals.

  • Inform your doctor about new or worsening fever, cough, or trouble breathing, as these could be signs of a rare lung condition.
  • Report any unusual tingling, numbness, loss of sensation, or difficulty moving your hands and feet.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience severe or prolonged diarrhea, especially if it contains blood or mucus.
  • This medicine can affect blood clotting test results, making it seem like your blood doesn't clot well, even if it does. Inform your doctor you are taking Daptomycin Noridem.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking cholesterol-lowering medicines (statins or fibrates) or cyclosporine, as this medicine might increase your risk of muscle problems.
  • Inform your doctor if you are taking NSAIDs or COX-2 inhibitors (painkillers), as they can affect how Daptomycin Noridem works in your kidneys.
  • If you are taking blood thinners (anticoagulants like warfarin), your doctor might need to monitor your blood clotting time more closely.
  • This medicine is generally not given to pregnant women. Do not breastfeed while taking this medicine, as it can pass into breast milk.
