How to Use
Dosage
For adults: 4 mg per kg of body weight once daily for skin infections, or 6 mg per kg of body weight once daily for heart or blood infections. Doses for children depend on age and infection type.
Method
Adults receive it into a vein as an infusion (about 30 minutes) or injection (about 2 minutes). Children receive it into a vein as an infusion (30-60 minutes).
Important
Your doctor will determine your daily dose based on your condition and kidney function.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Fungal infections (like thrush)
- •Urinary tract infections
- •Low red blood cell count (anemia)
- •Dizziness, anxiety, trouble sleeping
- •Headache
- •Fever, weakness
- •High or low blood pressure
- •Constipation, stomach pain
- •Diarrhea, nausea or vomiting
- •Gas
- •Abdominal swelling or bloating
- •Rashes or itching
- •Pain, itching or redness at the injection site
- •Pain in hands/arms or legs
- •High liver enzymes or CPK in blood tests
RARE
- •Blood disorders (e.g., increased platelets or certain white blood cell types)
- •Decreased appetite
- •Tingling or numbness in hands/feet, changes in taste
- •Tremors
- •Changes in heart rhythm, flushing
- •Indigestion, tongue inflammation
- •Itchy skin rash
- •Muscle pain, cramps or weakness, myositis, joint pain
- •Kidney problems
- •Vaginal inflammation or irritation
- •General pain or weakness, fatigue
- •High blood sugar, creatinine, myoglobin, or LDH in blood tests; prolonged blood clotting time or electrolyte imbalance
- •Itchy eyes
- •Yellowing of skin or eyes
- •Prolonged prothrombin time
- •Severe diarrhea (with blood/mucus, stomach pain, fever), easy bruising, bleeding gums or nosebleeds (antibiotic-associated colitis)
Important Warnings
- Do not use if you are allergic to daptomycin or any other ingredient.
- Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems.
- Report muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness right away.
- Seek immediate medical help for severe allergic reactions (e.g., trouble breathing, swelling of face/throat, severe rash).
- Tell your doctor if you have severe skin issues (like blisters or peeling skin) or severe kidney problems that cause fever and rash.

- This medicine is not for children under 1 year old.
- Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially cholesterol-lowering drugs (statins, fibrates), cyclosporine, NSAIDs, or blood thinners (warfarin).
- Do not breastfeed while taking this medicine.
