How to Use

Dosage

The dose depends on your weight and infection type; adults typically receive 4-6 mg/kg once daily, and children (2-17 years) receive 5-9 mg/kg once daily depending on age.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection or infusion directly into a vein, lasting about 2 to 60 minutes depending on age and method.

Important

Do not take more than one dose per day; the maximum daily dose for adults is 6 mg/kg and for children is 9 mg/kg, as determined by your doctor.

  • Fungal infections (like thrush)
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia)

  • Pain in your hands, arms, or legs
  • Higher liver or muscle enzyme levels in blood tests
RARE
  • Blood problems (like too many platelets or certain white blood cells)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Tingling or numbness in hands/feet, changes in taste, trembling
  • Changes in heart rhythm, flushing
  • Indigestion, swollen tongue, itchy skin rash
  • Muscle pain or weakness, muscle inflammation, joint pain
  • Kidney problems, vaginal inflammation or irritation
  • General pain or weakness, fatigue
  • Changes in blood test results (e.g., blood sugar, kidney/muscle markers, clotting time, salt levels)
  • Yellowing of skin and eyes
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., chest pain, blistering rash, throat swelling, rapid/weak pulse, wheezing, fever, chills, hot flushes, dizziness, fainting, metallic taste)
  • A rare lung disease called eosinophilic pneumonia (e.g., trouble breathing, cough, worsening fever)
  • Severe or long-lasting diarrhea with blood/mucus, stomach pain or fever (antibiotic-related colitis)

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to daptomycin or any other ingredients.
  • Inform your doctor if you have or have had kidney problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Report muscle tenderness, pain, or weakness to your doctor, as blood tests may be needed.
  • If you experience any signs of a severe allergic reaction like trouble breathing, swelling of the face/throat, rash, hives, or fever, seek immediate medical help.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have unusual tingling or numbness in your hands or feet, or difficulty moving.
